Commercial rap sucks. I like some old school stuff though, and some not so commercial hip-hop.I like stuff like Digable Planets, Public Enemy, Tribe Called Quest, Beasties, Jill Scott, Jurassic5, Black Eyed Peas, NWA, the Roots, Guru and Gang Star, Snoops pretty cool, KRS One, there is definately good rap and hiphop out there, you just have to search for it you won't find it on the radio or mtv. Being a hippy means having an open mind and that means being open to all kinds of musical experiences

    Busdriver
    Daedelus
    The Roots
    Cypress Hill
    Atmosphere
    Blackalicious
    The J. Davis Trio
    Tec-9 (to some extent)
    8-bit

There are other artists I respect but don't usually groove to. Eminem can make a descent rhyme and i give him respect for his battle on cencorship. Kanye West's "Jesus Walks" is really fucking amazing. Nas usually makes some interesting tunes, that single he did with his dad is great. Beastie Boys always seem to put out catchy beats.

lil jon and the eastside boys is not rap music....its "crunk" music and its slowly erasing what rap used to be Rythm And Poetry.

I don't like rap ...I was a lot more open with rap 10 years ago

but in the last 5 years...it change a lot... for me rap lose his way when it became more and more commercial rap...
In the beggining rap was a fight for their rights...and now that they're millionaire(just some of them ok) ...they loose their goal...
Modern rap just talk 'bout money and the biggest girl's ass of the neighbour...sorry but it's not deep enough for me.
And often to built their own song they cut a part of an old song to built a new one...this is sad that music became like that...
this still creation but low price creation.
I just respect 3 or 4 bands like "Public Ennemy", they were great in the late 80's.
"Arrested Developement" was a good band too and more modern "The Jurassic 5" is a good one....i like better the oldschool style...

no one rapper can be the modern beatniks because beatniks love rock funk psycherock or jazz...but no no they definately can't love rap...
Try another name but don't put the beatnik name in a garbage like that (i'm not really a badman because in a big garbage there's always one or two things to eat )
