Aloha! I am currently in the Netherlands (close to Utrecht) and will stay for another 3 weeks. So I would like to ask you wether you have some tips for me what to see and to do in the Netherlands. I have a car so I could go anywhere. Shops, restaurants, theaters, museums, interesting places, ... are welcome. Something I should not miss? Maybe even someone who dares to show me around? Thanks. Eric
velvet is experienced to lead strangers around you really should check amsterdam, and yes, there's really more to it that hookers and coffeshops you got any interests of some kind? like art or sports or beer?
Aloha! Sounds like she made some experiences that prevent her from leading around strangers ever again?! Meanwhile I checked Amsterdam (for just about 3 hours). You are right, it is about hookers, coffee shops AND Asian restaurants Hm, I guess I have some interests, for example music, theaters, cinema and (nearly) every other kind of arts, I hoped to get some tips for places (also nature, outdoor) and activities away from the tourist mainstream, things the dutch like themselves, or least what-you-must-not-miss-when-you-visit-the-Netherlands. But seems like I have to see HAIR next week (like it is a true Hippie's duty...) E.
Hey! Just see this thread.. why do you think that? I'm just pretty busy plus, for now, I live on the other side of the country. As much as I love to meet new people and show them 'round I kinda stick to people I've known for some time already, because I simply can't help all the hipforummers that come to Amsterdam. If everything goes well, I'll be living in Amsterdam soon and then things'll be more easy when it comes to meeting folk, but for now it's just a whole lot of hassle. Hope you're having a great time! Let me know how 'Hair' was.. I saw it a few years ago, but with an english cast.. I'm a bit sceptic of the Dutch cast and aren't planning on seeing it so far since the time I saw it was such a great experience Have fun!
Oh, just a guess. But better the other way. That's why I was not asking you. But seems like you have excellent references for applying to a guide's job? I do! I've just been in Amsterdam for one day, maybe I will go for another. I travel around a lot, mostly along the sea so far. I Visited Den Haag, Utrecht, Amsterdam and Rotterdam already. I plan to go to Tilburg next and cities like Groningen (a little far away, so maybe), Nijmegen (been there once, so maybe), and/or Arnhem are still on the program. So I would really appreciate any tips, whatever it is or whereever it is. I got another two weeks. A Dutch cast? So they will sing dutch? That would be quite fun for me! I already know some words like nietmaschien, schuim, nachtmerrie,... (forget about the spelling) Check this: http://www.onstage.nl/onstage/0,2083,1607_1129%5E1132%5E1410-125937,00.html E.
you got schuim and nachtmerrie right. but it's 'nietmachine'. if you like art you could try 'rijksmuseum' (17th century masters such as rembrandt) or the 'van Gogh museum' or 'stedelijk museum'. Tuschinski is the best place to go to a movie. i think you heard about Madame Tussaud, dunno if you're interested. Maybe you wanna go to the artis zoo. or there are some museums as the historic museum of amsterdam or the jewish historic museum, sexmuseum, biblical museum, the 'Verzetsmuseum' (verzet=resistance. in WW2 ofcourse). http://www2.holland.com/amsterdam/nl/ (for more click the one one the bottom right)
oh and I learn one crucial thing of velvet: u wanna buy cooool clothing, go to the market on the 'waterlooplein'.
