I'm no expert, I was taught a few things by my grandpa and am mostly self taught. Number one thing is to practice your breath control. Breathe in and out heavily to start the exercizes, then move on to rythmic breathing in and out, about 2-4 seconds on each in and each out. Then try and alter that rythym. Practice until your light headed. Wait a good long while and then jam out on your harp. This too is what you need to do to play good, practice practice practice. Pick yourself up some good ol' Missippi blues too, and keep an open ear to the harmonica work in that. Good luck friend, and enjoy that beatiful instrument you have!
Another Question to add to the first. Does anyone have any recommended harmonica songs to listen to? I have heard ones before but I'm just wondering if theres anything that special that I must definitely listen to?
get some Blues Traveler cds and shoot for the stars kid. Other than that, Junior Wells, Mac Hightower, and old blues bands are really awesome with harmonicas. I would definitely recommend some hohner gear to give you a good, well balanced set up. Other than that, practice breathing and jamming with CDs and friends... just go apeshit and see what you figure out. It's a lot easier than it appears.
ooh, I want learn to play too! but I don't have a harmonica. I've been thinking about it for awhile. But maybe my gradpa has... I'm gonna ask him next time i visit him. Good luck, Holp
