I think baby boomers have plenty of heart too. It was a different era. But I do see a disturbing trend toward bad-mouthing Gen Z or Millennials.
You could ask me in a thousand years and I still wouldn't sacrifice the life of either one of my parents who are both at that vulnerable age, and at least one has a underlying medical condition. Fuck the economy
I see a disturbing trend of bad-mouthing "Boomers"... Especially now that it's going to be "so easy to eradicate them" Problem solved.... Save the economy, kill all the boomers. ~ VG
That's true. Even the word "boomer" is easily a normalization of the whole associated negative connotation. It has turned into an ageist slur.
More divide and conquer. Now we boomers are to blame for everything. So what? Our parents blamed us before, now it's our kids and grandchildren. Must be nice to be perfect.
if it weren't for boomers, there wouldn't be a gen z, y, or x, or whatever they call themselves. ignore vg, like I have.
yes I have seen quite a few say boomers should die faster on here, they have to move aside... bla bla bla, I found it disgusting. i erased it because I thought I was are the last page of this thread, didn’t realize I wasn’t. Lol. So I didn’t want t9 drudge up the past. Lol
NO matter what catastrophe hits the world, as long as there are people living in it - the economy will once again pick up. It may not be as robust as it was right before corona virus hit, but first you have to have lots of survivors to make, grow, and buy things. If a global pandemic like the black plague hits the world again - the least of your worries should be how your stocks are holding up. Food, clean water, and shelter will be ALL that matters. You can't eat your stock certificates, drink them, or take shelter under them Stocks are nothing but speculative, arbitrary things that humans attach value to. In the case of a really bad global crisis, your stock certificates and statements will become toilet paper. We'll all be looking for our next meal, a cool drink of water, and a place to stay warm at night. In a struggle for survival, a new cell-phone, a pearl necklace, a high-end car, or a "Siri" that talks to you will have ZERO value anymore. The bottom line is ……….. the only things that matter are people. If we neglect our own kind - what's left?????
Interesting thing about inter-generational warfare: the sides have a way of switching as nature takes its course. The Boomers used to say "Don't trust anyone over 30". Now Gen Y'ers are hoping the boomers kick the bucket soon, so they can get all the money. But by the time they move out of their folks' basements and strike out on their own (if that ever happens), they'll be ready for the rest home, and their grandkids will be hoping for another Corona virus. Such a vicious cycle! And poor VG--48? Almost there already. Let's see what tune you're singing in a decade or so. If I had a son like that, I'd cut him out of the will!
For those that want to discard ANY other human being - you put yourself in the same league as Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, and Mussolini. Those kinds of comments are not of God. Maybe you don't even believe in God - so you don't care. If you DO believe in God - maybe you ought to go back and read the scriptures to see who's side Jesus is on. (hint: it's the poor, the homeless, the destitute, the sick, the castaways of society, the unjustly judged, the helpless, the orphans & widows, the old, etc.) I can't find a verse where he's defending a king, or a brutal dictator, murderers, rapists, greedy liars & deceitful types, or those who disregard fellow human beings and treat them as disposable "trash."
In Helsinki, Trump was basically asked to pick a side, US or Russia. He chose Russia, and made clear that he will do what Putin says. Trump is the first US American president to serve in the military of a hostile foreign nation since Andrew Jackson, his hero. But even Jackson was a conscript, not a volunteer.
You make some good points, especially about the freakin' stock market. I am hoping that after this is all said and done, there is a change in lifestyle in this country. Maybe people will realize that money does not lead to health, or happiness.
Empathy and reciprocal altruism are qualities found even in non-human species and shared by most humans (Australian gorillas may be an exception). The strongest bonds are with kin who share our DNA. Unfortunately, they seem to be limited to people who look like us, but the major world religions have tried to extend the sentiments to strangers. Anyhow, the fact that these tendencies exist is an indication that there is an evolutionary basis for them for species survival. The alternative is the law of the jungle, dog eat dog, a war of all against all in which life would be as Hobbes put it, "nasty, brutish and short". Some misshapen individuals are apparently devoid of these instincts. Behavioral scientists call them sociopaths and psychopaths--antisocial personality is the generic term. These personality disorders are guided by cold blooded selfish calculations like "why not kill the old folks and take their money." There are apparently more of these twisted types than we might think. I'm afraid we might have one in the White House (not so much re old folks; they're his main constituency), which may explain his attraction to fellow sociopaths who post his praises in social media. Fortunately, most of us sense where this would lead, and won't go there.
The economy pays for that health system This is just one disease. I'm not talking about money or morality. I'm talking about common sense Now that those estimates have come way down, a far deadlier upcoming flu season will match Covid numbers this year because every body has been seperated for a couple of months. That alone is reason to move to plan B now And 5 boomers like that post. Stop pretending it's not about you
