So, today at Walmart (of all places[/sarcasm]) almost all the checkout lanes were open... Well, 5 out of 6 lanes were open, they have mostly switched over to "self checkout". There used to be more than 12-15 lanes with two cashers. Because cashers cost money..... Anyways, I'm waiting with the rest of the horde of panic buyers in line and in the lane next to mine this poor old lady, (probably younger than me, but that's another story) who was using one of the store's motorized chair/cart/thingys, couldn't move forward because the unit had just died... She was next in line at her casher. The people behind her start scrambling around like rats trying to find a different lane to go to, a few of them bitching about "something, anything, everything" under their breath, meanwhile this helpless lady can't make the chair move. I push my cart to the side, told the person behind me to go ahead, and asked the lady if I could help her unload her cart and get it out of the way... She said yes and thanked me for the help. I come to find out she was two weeks after major surgery and wasn't really supposed to be out doing this shyt anyways. She was able to get up to the casher and buy her stuff, but walmart was not able to get her another motorized cart... I had to push the busted one backwards out of the lane because no employee showed up for that either. Meanwhile I was no longer in a lane. The next lady in that lane told me to go ahead of her, but she only had a few items so I told her "No, go ahead, you have less than I do" She did thank me and mentioned my helping the other lady. I did the same for the guy behind her, who I believe is living out of the backpack he had in his cart. He only had like three things to buy... He didn't say anything, just walked on by me without eye contact.. Then I looked at the young couple that was next who seemed to have half of the store in their two carts, and lightheartedly said "You, I'm going to cut in front of..." On cue, they were both like "fuck, piss, shit, grumble, grumble".... I bought my ten "non-panic" things and left the store. What I don't understand is.... Why was it so difficult for anybody else to help this older lady? There must have been 20 or so people right there, not one could even consider helping this person.
