I just filled my tank here in high tax NYC at the amazingly low price of $2.49 per gallon. Thank you president Trump!

Trump's gut during a real crisis.

His gut had a lackluster performance for casinos, airlines, steaks, seminar schools, and bottled water.

His gut has been handed over at least partially to Mike Pence and now Mark Meadows.

Donald Trump's luck is being tested (opinion) - CNN

    excerpt:

"The presidential contest is taking shape amid growing concern about the worldwide spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, prompting health fears and economic reverberations that all of the campaigns have to consider.

Foremost among those is President Donald Trump's reelection bid, premised largely on the strength of the economy. "Until now President Donald Trump has been lucky," wrote Peter Bergen. "During his first three years in office there was no major crisis on his watch of the type that has challenged every president in the half century before him ... nothing comparable to the Cuban missile crisis (John Kennedy); no Vietnam War (Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon); no hostage crisis in Iran (Jimmy Carter)..."

Presidents can rise to the occasion of a great crisis, Bergen noted. But "there are reasons to worry about whether he can do so, as the crisis underlines eight of his key failings as a leader." Among those: "Trump doesn't do any homework ... He always believes he knows more than the experts about any given subject ... Trump trusts his own gut.""

Trump is known for not being able to handle crises that are not the ones of his own making.

Mass shooting incidents are an example. His approval rating is known to drop slightly during his bungled efforts to try to deal with such incidents and show any semblance of concern and compassion. He needed simple cue cards in his hand when addressing the public.

The 'ten steps ahead of everyone' Trump bungles even the crises of his own devise, such as his scrambling to repurpose U.S. taxpayer money to farmers damaged by the retaliatory tariffs that caused the colateral damage that he didn't expect after initiating his 'easy to win' trade wars.

Trump's trade wars contributed to an overall global manufacturing slowdown and lower car sales which resulted in a glut of oil on the market and lower fuel prices.

All Eyes On OPEC As Another Oil Glut Looms

All Eyes On OPEC As Another Oil Glut Looms | OilPrice.com

    excerpt:

"Recent data point to a significant slowdown in world industrial production growth since the end of 2018. The IMF attributes this slowdown to a sharp drop in car production and sales, weak business confidence and slowing Chinese demand,” the IEA said.

Needless to say, the outcome of the U.S.-China trade war has a great deal of influence on demand. The IEA said that oil demand would be 400,000 bpd higher in 2020 if tariffs were removed. But the general assumption is that most of the tariffs will remain, notwithstanding the pending “partial deal” that could suspend or delay some levies."

You can't drive to Fort Lee? Or take the Holland Tunnel to Jersey City? It's cheaper over yonder, ain't it?

Gas prices at the pump are a strange issue. Here in WA State prices are about 2.97 per gallon at the least expensive places. Since Christmas the price of crude has fallen about 50 cents per gallon....price at the pump has increased about a penny or two per gallon. We do have relatively high gas taxes, about 20 cents per gallon above the national average; yet our pump prices are at least 50 cents or more per gallon above the national average. We are routinely about second in the nation in terms of price. Because there are only a few participants in the market it’s apparent that games are being played that have nothing to do with free markets or supply and demand.

It’s entirely possible that there as a deliberate effort to keep prices high to discourage green efforts in this liberal State. Carbon tax proposals fail because we already have very high prices by comparison to other states. I for one would like to see a national carbon tax of at least a dollar per gallon to cut carbon emissions and promote efficient transportation. Our world has a finite time to do the right thing in terms of greenhouse gas emissions.
