Kids for sure. When I was a kid I used to pick dandelions and give them to my Mom.

 

I read through this thread since you bumped it and I’m gonna give the story I got.

Little boy across the street has a crush on Mel. Doesn’t have any blossoming flower type plants nearby with which to kick his game to the nice adult lady across the street (that makes his lil boy heart do strange things he doesn’t quite understand), so he unwittingly digs up a weed and gifts that, instead.

 

PS:

This event occurred a year ago, meaning at least one of the protagonists has completely forgotten about the whole thing.

They will climb on fense around trees, but they do die back. They need water.. lol

 

The sweet lil boy who gave me this ugly ass weed moved a couple weeks ago. He lived with his grandparents, his mom had nothing to do with him, he was at our house all the time and was basically my son's brother from another mother and was with us more than he was with his actual family

I put his weed on the side of the road for the city to collect for mulch though lol
