Womyn in the Media with "normal" body styles

Some things got me thinking. My dad and I were talking about what a good actor John Tuturro is, and I said, "There is simply no way that a womyn, no matter how good of an actress she is, could get parts if she were as homely as Tuturro." My dad didn't agree, and named some actresses HE thought were not pretty, thing was, in comparison to the rest of the normal people, they were still all skinny and beautiful. Nothing wrong with you if you are naturally skinny and pretty, but how many chubby or not so beautiful womyn do you actually SEE in the media today?

I can only name a few. I would include Oprah, but she is so freaking obsessed with loosing weight, that I don't think she should count.

• Calliou's mother on that cartoon (she is lumpy, has a "mommy body")
• The womyn who plays Karen on Will and Grace, she's pretty, but actually has some meat on her bones.
• The womyn who played Mimi on The Drew Cary Show, Only she she will probably never be seen again.

kelly osbourne? I don't know. there aren't many. and she doesn't do much but it was all I can think of.

I love Karen from Will & Grace! I think she's a great actress with a normal body and she's still gorgeous!

I can't really think of anyone that is popular in the media (someone we see pretty regularly) that fits the description. Rosanne, when people could still stomach her. That girl from The View that just got married. that's all I can muster up at this moment. I only watch shows like Simpsons, South Park, Futurama on TV though, I get sick of all the actors. Give me animation!

What I find intreseting is that there is no lack of overweight men in the media.

 

I love the wommon who plays Karen! She's very cute. Renee Zellweger (sp?) has a nice body. She isn't thin, although she has a nice waistline that really look stunning with her hips!

There's also the redhead from "That 70's Show." She's not heavy, but not anorexic. She's sort of "natural pretty."

The womyn who plays Donna (I don't ever remember TV actor's names) on Judging Amy. She's short and plump and adorable. But she IS the comic releif on the show.

 

I love Donna =P

Amy's mother in that show is also plump and adorable, and I love her attitude!

 

My favorite normal looking woman on tv is Gwen Ifill. She is one of the senior correspondents on The Newshour on PBS. But I don't watch tv or movies often enough to know of many others.

 

the hottest women to ever live who I would so do is Nigella Lawson from teh style channel and who wrote how to be a domestic goddess. Oh if I were a man...

I love Renee Z when she's put on some normal poundage. Unfortunately she has normally lost it really quickly after those movies of hers, and gets down to some very low weights. Then they stick her on all these mags with captions like "How'd she lose it? Find out her weightloss secret!" Bleah...

How bout that beautiful woman that was on The Practice? (or is? is it still on?) I think she's a great actress

 

There are a few 'larger' actresses, but what gets me is how the magazines etc...focus on that rather than their talents. I mean, yeah they get some exposure, but it seems that the media is more obsessed with so and so's 20 pound weight loss/gain then whether not she was any good in her recent film

also, whther they are bigger or not, so many of these women are stunning. If you are female, you can't be bad/funny looking if you want major parts.

whereas guys can be, well, quite bizzare looking and still get acclaim and fans.

i don't know...i just can't imagine a female Tom Green, or even a female De Niro (i.e. amazingly talented, but not impossibly beautiful)

 

why does everyone care so much about what the fuck people in hollywood look like? its not really real... people shouldnt get so worked up about what other people look like... everyone's always bitching about how all these super modles are making the feel fat and stuff, and how you aren't hip unless you are skinny... for christ sakes, this is a hippie forum! hippies are anti fashon nonconformists! why would ANYONE let the media make them feel bad about themselves (unless you're a serial killer or a pedophile...)?

Maybe it's not such a bad thing, perhaps people will tire of the generic TV/Movie look? I know I don't really find any of them attractive, and I can't be the only one...

 

Switch on Friday Night Standup on Comedy Central sometime. Some of the woman are scary supermodely, but most of the woman are pretty normal looking. You know, they're attractive, but the kind of attractive that you can actually walk on the street and see a person who looks like that? Human attractive, not factory attractive. One of the things I like about standup comedy is that the comedians, both male and female, tend to be pretty human looking.

And I love to laugh. Who doesn't?

 

Renee looked normal when she gained weight for bridget jones's diary...but have you seen her lateley?! it's almost disgusting how thin she is...

but i'd have to say catherine zeta jones isn't superskinny...she's definetly a beautiful full figured gal...

 

I absolutely love Camren Manheim...She's a beautiFULL woman...Not to mention, I thought it rocked that SHE got to be Snow White in the Tenth Kingdom...A big girl being the prettiest woman in fairy tales...How fucking cool was that for big girls around the world? one of our own being the princess

I just googled up a recent pic when you said that. She looks unhealthy. See, in Bridget Jones' Diary, she just looked like a normal, healthy wommon.

I admit I am a little shallow; I like to see a nice figure despite the number on the scale. Camron Manheim HAS a nice figure!
