I loved The Exorcist! It wasn't really scary, but I got a kick out of some of the stuff she said. The part with the cross cracked me up. Yes, I know, I'm disturbed.

The only movie that ever really freaked me out (and I've saw them all, :p) was The Ring. I'm not sure why really, but I'm a sucker for freaky looking little girls. Has anyone saw Rose Red? The girl with the one arm that's smaller than the others scares me to death. I think it was the whole TV thing in The Ring that got me. And the night we watched it we had to drive out in the middle of nowhere (in eastern kentucky, lol) and I suppose some mass hysteria thing happend. So yes, I can't wait to see The Ring 2! Yay!

The Exorcist seems to be the scariest movie ever seen by people who are old enough to have seen it when it first came out in movie theaters in 1972.

It doesnt seem to be scary at all to people under say 30 or so who have only ever seen it on video or DVD.
There were no gory video games or Freddie Krueger / Jason slasher films when it first came out. Maybe thats why...

The scariest movie I ever saw was the original "The Haunting" made in the 60s. (not the pathetic 1999 remake with Catherine Zeta Jones)

It's psychological horror.. you never see what it is that's doing all the terrifying things.. you just sense it by sounds and the reactions of the actors..

    I liked Ringu too..

I must admit that it will have been scary when it first came out, where I live there were nuns outside the cinema telling people not to watch it (or so the storys go)

I was a bit freaked out by 'The Thing' and 'Hellraiser' where the thing kind of materilises out of the floor bords, but I was pretty young when I seen that and was alone in the dark! Ive seen it since and wasnt botherd!

A lot og you have mentioned the grudge, never seen it so Im gonna try and get it!

Scariest film? perhaps The Uninvited or Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?....though Jacob's Ladder was a nice effort as well.

One would think I would have been scared of "The Exorcist" growing up/living in the city where it took place (the original possession). But nope, I was 6. But when I was 5 I saw the only movie that EVER scared me... "The Omen"

"The Exorcist" didn't really scare me. "The Omen," on the other hand, gave me the heebie-jeebies. More subtle horror, but quite good. After watching that I was so excited to see "Rosemary's Baby," but it just annoyed me. *I* wanted to put Rosemary away after seeing that flick.
