Best place I found in the world (I travel a lot!): beautiful landscape still natural (even if a lot of forests disapeared since I first was there! Possibilities for onself to disappear too...in the wilderness! Solitude when wanted! Amazing people:congenial, broad minded ,open, smiling, singing ,dancing.Perfect audience! Of course I spent most of my time in Queensland,Byron Bay,Nimbin ,Sydney Kingscross and Melbourne!! What an unbeleivable (for French people, even European,I guess!) alternative scene with your festivals, markets (Belingen,Victoria,St Andrew) where people talk together, smile at one another, dance together! A symbolic thing, too : Melbourne's restaurant (Lentil ) in St Kilda where one pays according to one's wish.Have you ever seen such a thing in Europe? Yes! One in France which lasted a few days ,people just starving themselves before and not paying! One in Ibiza ,too ,the owner pays the food by himself just to have friends, just like the Hare Krishna's sunday parties of the past (now too?); he found out that some people have been feeding like this for a year ! Thanks all of you ,alternative people from Australia ,for the atmosphere you keep on ...and in which I was delighted to live!
I love Western Australia. That place was crazy. Everything could kill you. I remember going to the beach and having to swim in an iron cage built into the water to protect us from the beasties. I remember when Skylab fell and all us kids went running around the mudflats looking for pieces. Wide open spaces, some places looked like a Clint Eastwood movie with the plateaus and so dry. Flies. Everywhere. In your mouth. Your eyes. Cyclones coming in and filling the house with water so we could play with our little boats in the living room. The huge harbor where my grandpa was the harbor master. He'd take me out on his boat out to where you could see the oilrigs. We'd watch dolphins, groups of them jumping in and out of the water. Going fishing on the saltwater river. Putting a net across so that when the tide came out we'd go back and get the fish. We caught a shark once. A small one, about a meter in length. We threw it back in. Once we caught a fish on the boat at night and the fish almost capsized us. SO my grandfather cut the line. Heat. Very hot andme always barefoot. My school uniform was grey. Grey shorts, grey shirt, grey socks. I hated it. Port Hedland, Cooke Point Primary
I'm just coming back from your wonderful country and it seems like I have found the Paradise !!! Just visited the East and South East part, but already enough to confirm this "revelation" : above the beauty and disconnecting types of landscapes (Rainforest, Blue Mountains, non ending beaches in spite the jellyfishes invasion ...), what I've most of all have appreciated is the kindness of everyone, always wellcoming, smiling, ready to help, play, laugh, dance, enjoy every moment of life. No stress, no agressivity, no interest when approaching you, just positively curious, open and naturally warm and nice ... you see, when writing this, makes me cry because now I'm back in my country and it's all the opposite of this : dark, sad, schyzophrenic people, always judging your attitude or your way of living, loving, laughing, even dressing, smiling ... Having to fight to maintain my simplicity, my happyness, my integrity, my ideals ... I'm talking about France, this said so country of Rights ans Liberty ! But now I know why I'm working so hard : to come back In Australia as soon as possible so I can leave down all my weapons and just BE what I am !!! I Love you so, you amazing Australian people, keeping the flame of my heart burning !
