I am actually trying to organize a family reunions on the island where I live for this coming summer I already have a couple of sisters agreeing to it.... It would not be at my house it would be at my boss's place.....

 

I live in the Bible Belt and anymore, when someone (although never family members cause they don't bother me with their superstitions) starts the Jesus thing I just let them talk for however long they wish, I appear attentive and when they've finished I say something like "I find your belief system fascinating." And that's usually it.

 

Yeah, don't see my brother doing that lol. He does raise his kids christian, but hey, we were raised christian too and came out fairly sensible

Is your brother at odds with Jesus' miracles being looked at with scrutiny, Mel? Or primarily that your kid is being a smartass about it against his mum? :-D

He's not being a smart ass, he was just telling my mom what he thinks and she was impressed with his critical thought lol. It's just my brother that has the issue.
His texts are all about how atheists and agnostics are just perpetually lost in existential doom basically, haha. And how he doesnt want that for my son. Then he quotes a bunch of bible verses

You know what though? I dont mind being lost in existential doom. I've gotten rather used to it!

 

Yeah, we get along well. Ever since as kids he was the smart one while i was the athletic one. He's the friendly, outspoken one, i'm the quiet, reserved one. He's more emotional while i'm much more calm. I get along well with a cousin who is also opposite of me.

I've wondered that too.

proselytizing sucks.
so i will advise exhibit A: the Penn Jillette bit about it(proselytizing) , as a respectable atheist... (it might take a minute to find, xtians love to pull it out as a doozy out of context) but the opinion carries weight.

so, that explains "the reason" if your brother is proselytizing properly.
but your reception is part B. every time your brother throws this info out there, it becomes a conversation with the kiddo. you cant change that others want/ feel a need to proselytize. but you are the conduit of interpretation. "your uncle is an idiot because X, Y, Z. but heres why hes an idiot"
or, you can just tell him that he is not welcome to instruct your child in such matters. "if you want to ruin your own kids thats fine, i guess, but do not ruin my kids with your bs or i will ruin/destroy you."
my teen slept over his grandparents and was forced into sunday school the next day. i was pissed. right. off. he has not spent a saturday night at their house since, because i cant trust them not to drag him to church (if he expressed an interest i would try to make it available to him, but that was not the case) i am "withholding their grandchild" and "being difficult" but its only on saturday nights, and its not just me, its just me thats taking the blame. i have spent years being carefully informative with my kids about religion, its tenets, the way it affects different folks, etc etc, and im not giving up that much work without a fight. my kid knows that opinions are like assholes, everyone has em and they all stink. everybody just hates that they can't imprint their bullshit on my kid. thats the real problem people have, and its not a "me" problem, its a "them" problem. my kid comes home, tells me what happened, and gets debriefed. its a hassle, but it works. the bullshit doesnt stand a chance against teaching your kids critical thinking.
i am more than willing to burn a bridge, my hubby tends to stay my hand. but i give no shits on my own behalf. im just waiting for him to let me loose. religion can be contentious, because it seems like such a small thing to invalidate a relationship, but its the disrespect that does that. my hubby's grandfather told us that our kids would go to hell because they werent baptized. until our twin passed, and he talked with his own pastor, and apologized to my hubby for having said such a thing. people dont change until something affects them.

I may be stepping out of bounds here but I feel like, sibling or not, you dont get to but in on how someone else is raising their kid. I hope I didn't offend. I'm sure your brother is a good person, means well, and I'm sure you love him. But how you raise your son is your business. Me and my partner are from wildly different religious backgrounds. And we make it work. And we make it work because we dont try and convert each other. We respect each others beliefs In time your brother will too. You're his sister after all and he loves you
