    Good evening good people,

Here’s my update... I have located and are in negotiations for the land, an agreement has been made just the legal mumbo jumbo to deal with! It is 75 acres located on the st. Croix river in maine. To my understanding this is a densely wooded area, alot of hard woods, and great fishing. It is my intention to go up in late march or april and begin the erecting of the communal structure...

As this structure will be built with all earthen materials (on-site) we will need some help. If you find yourself with nothing better to do than to get to know nature and maybe yourselves i would really appreciate it...as it stands im only certain of there being 2 males and a female... specifically if you are a blacksmith i would lo to speak more with you about a place in the community... not that its not open to anyone to join... if we can get enough people we are going to turn the earth and plant a summer and winter garden as some of us will remain there after the completion of the lodge...

Also i would like your input on something... what do you think about a hippie winter camp ground? You know i could build a large garage type building for rv/van repairs... give them somewhere safe to winter till the dawn of the next rainbow trail? I dunno i just want to be as useful as possible! Names? Any suggestions?

Hey Will...Congrats on the purchase of the land. I am still very interested in being a part of this. Please keep me informed on when you plan to start construction as I would love to be there when you start.

    Way to go Will
    Never give up
and remember the Doing of it and the growth and experiences garnered actually means more than it's success.
Sooner or later people will see the light - too bad it seems too often to be a fairly traumatic negative that brings them to it.
I ever get off the grindstone (paying off the equipment) i'll get up to visit. Can feel the nomadic yearnings stirring and sooner or later I'll find myself on the road again.
    Best wishes for your journey.

wonder what's happening in new brunswick. any communities developing in canada? i know vancouver is pretty hot. how bout other places? how are the land prices in your area? what are the possibilities there? i stayed at a farm in new brunswick once, it was pretty fine. let's hear more about canada. i don't see them invading other countries. there used to be some nice canadians on dead tour. seemed quite open and kind. i saw a couple of shows in hamilton. the scene was cool. i hear that rainbow gatherings in quebec go well and that good connections were made with local native americans at the last one. so what's happening in canada?

hey fred, i know the new prime minister in canada and bush are starting to buddy up, so it may end up not being such a nice place soon. just a thought though. i stayed in new brunswick for a spell once and i can tell you it gets cold there very early in the year. there are only a few months that are somewhat descent. just my opinions.

talk to ya soon, oh fred, i am meeting w/ the realtor at 1:30 my time today, so i should be in touch w/ you around 6 or 7 this evening your time.

i see the whole "cold" thing really bothers alot of people... does anyone ever stop to consider that warm and muggy climates are the breeding grounds of contamination and infections not to many bacteria reproduce or survive cold temperatures wheres as alot of molds and bacteria fprefer/seek out warm host1 secondly i look at alot of things one of them is food storage its alil harder to keep a large amout of food from spoiling in warmer climates!

    congrats bro!

I think a winter haven would be awsome -- especially for people, as you said, that break down or something or are just nomadic and want a nice spot to stay during the winter months...

    peace and love

Hey cool! I am moving to Maine in a few weeks:) I would love to come help you build if I can get to you. I did some building over the summer and had a great time:)

Edit: Oh I'll be a bit far from you. I like your idea of a campground however. You can let people stay in return for helping build:)

I will be moving to the lower half of Maine, as that is where my family is. I would like to visit you guys though.

I am going to stay with my aunt for a while, then take steps toward buying some property of my own. I would really love to come up for a weekend and help you guys build, as I want to see how a foundation is put in and learn more about buildng in general.

Cob is great. There are some experts on cob in Vermont that seem to focus on cob/strawbale hybrids because straw provide great insulation for cold weather. I should hunt down that e-mail they sent me, but here is their website- http://www.spiralworks.org/
    :)

I've been thinking about our first permaculture setup , adn was wondering how big are the clearings on this land, I figure about 110' squared is a good enough initial setup for an organic farm/orchard/microlivestock grazing

    Hi Willpower,
Maine eh? Nice country up there. I wanted to turn You on to something. Pyecrete. I am not sure that is the exact spelling. Snow and saw dust mixed in certain proportions that will stop a bullet because its so hard. It lasts ie doesn't melt. It would be a good way to provide yourselves with year round cold storage. May be Pike or Pyke was the guy in england who invented it in the last stages of ww2. The allies had plans to make floating islands out of the stuff that would be unaffected by torpedoes etc where they could land planes. WAr ended and it was never developed. You have all the ingredients in maine. Peace be with you. Jay
