i've had a cold/stomach bug that i haven't been able to kick for...going on three days. well, the cold is gone, but i cannot digest anything comin in- it comes right out the other end. this is such a bummer- i hate not eating, which is what it's come to. i've been drinking tea and some toast, but nothing much else.
i think due to this, my head feels really disconnected, almost like being really stoned. i'm also sleepy, but otherwise have a strange 'energy' that allows me to do some stuff. today i went for a walk.
i don't know what to do for myself. i really do not like this disconnected feeling. the only thing i can relate it to is coming off anesthesia.
suggestions, insight? last time i came off anesthesia and felt similarly, i downed tons of greens and veggie juices. now my stomach won't allow for that.

You sound like you are seriously dehydrated, Kayte. Are you urinating much? Is is a dark color or a funny odor? Do you get dizzy when you stand up? You probably need to see a doctor or even go to the ER today.

Yeah, it sounds like you need to get fluids into you. I've been seriously dehydrated and the doctor ordered me to drink a gallon of gatorade a day... which can't really be all that good for you either, but it beats dying.

Gatorade really doesn't have enough salt for you when you are dehydrated by illness. You can actually get water intoxication (hyponatremia, where you have too little saline in your blood volume.) Pedialyte is forumlated for illness dehydration, Gatorate is made for the type of fluid loss you get from exhertion and exercise, which is REALLY different in mineral loss, medically speaking. She probably needs to be evaluated by a medical personell and maybe get a saline IV for a few hours. I would see a doctor right away.

My 5 year old dd was sick like this just last week. She spent the day in the ER on fluid IV and she felt much better. I am not saying you definately need this, but a doctor needs to evaluate you. It can take a LONG time to recover from dehydration if not treated properly.

A b.r.a.t. diet really helps for that. It consists of bananas, rice or rice water, apples without the skin (applesauce, apple juice, etc.), and tea. There has been a serious stomach virus going around my town, so I feel your pain. I hope you start feeling better soon!

that brat diet is what i did...now i'm alright. i did go to the doctor, who told me i had the flu, and to get back in bed. sufficient sleep...that's what i needed.
i did drink much water, but i suppose i was a bit dehydrated. also malnourished.
    all better now!

I'm glad you are feeling better. Influenza has struck hard this year.

    Blessings, peace and health, kayte.
