Good idea. An image of a society where women are property, homosexuality is a crime, prayer 5x a day is mandatory, shitting in the streets is customary, endangered species are hunted to extinction, FGM is commonplace, and abortions are banned. Yeah that’ll fix everything

1st of all I was being sarcastic. 2nd I'm not the person who said this place has failed.

3rd you have a really weird, warped and hateful view of immigrants. Maybe you can justify your hatred of immigrants. Maybe you can't. But either way that's some hateful rhetoric, dog

    See, you get it.

Anyway, 6 eyed shaman and Suzanne1977 I didn't mean dog as an insult. I meant like you, wassup dog? But even if I did mean dog as an insult (and I don't see how as dogs are cute, fun, loyal and a bunch of other positive attributes) did you not see what they said about immigrants??? No offense Suzanne, but you're defending the wrong side

The things I listed included cultural beliefs from people of many different international regions. What part of what I said was hateful? If you think what I listed was hateful, then it seems you don't agree with those cultural beliefs either. Therefore you're hateful as well.

Seems that if anyone immigrating away from those cultural regions, is doing it to escape that way of life. Then again, they could be doing it like a missionary to spread their ideologies worldwide.

Your response only proves to me your true opinion of other cultures.

Multiculturalism sounds like fun when it's about food, fashion, music, arts, and entertainment. But it doesn't sound like much fun when culture is defined as law, policy, societal values, and worldview.

Social Marxism is a figment of right wing propaganda. Social Marxism, aka Cultural Marxism, originated in Nazi propaganda about "Cultural Bolshevism". More recently, it was revived and refurbished in the late 1980s by right wing paleoconservative conspiracy theorists William S. Lind and Pat Buchanan, as a snarl word to use against university professors, Hollywood, journalists, civil rights activists and feminists. Most recently, it is wielded by right wing ideologue Jordan Peterson in his crusade against "post modernist cultural Marxists" who are plotting to destroy the moral fiber of western civilization--your point, I take it. I doubt that the destruction of the nuclear family is a result of a sinister Communist plot. More likely, it's a result of larger social trends set in motion after World War II by, inter alia, capitalism. Television, the internet, modern advertising and social media all played a part in promoting rampant consumerism and an insatiable appetite for material stuff. Meanwhile, inflation exceeded salaries, while union busting and deregulation in the Reagan era stalled productivity for two-fifths or more of the population. Meanwhile, the median net worth of the top ten% income families went from 40 times to 70 times the median low income (those who make less than $42,500) household's net worth between 2007 and 2016..America's wealth gap is bigger than ever The shift from an industrial to a post-industrial economy put college education at a premium, and getting kids into a good college became more and more competitive. It became harder and harder to maintain a family in the style to which people wanted to become accustomed. Ergo, two careers and latchkey children. And more strains on relationships, leading to more divorce--which an increasingly secular society came to accept as normal.

I agree that, in a sense, the West has become a victim of its own civilization--i.e., we've become too civilized for our own good, the treatment of the London Bridge stabber being an example. The extremism of the Right and the extremism of the Left feed off of each other, and it will probably take a catastrophic crisis to bring people to their senses. BTW, I wouldn't expect Socialism to save us. I find a choice between Trump and Warren or Sanders daunting. But the increasing wealth gap between haves and have nots in this country has also caused some elements of the 1% to resort increasingly to desperate diversionary measures to shift blame to others. Hence the rise of propaganda Think Tanks like the Mises Institute, the Cato Institute, the Heritage Foundation, the Enterprise Institute, Americans for Prosperity, and the rest of the Koch Brothers, Schaife, Merecer, etc., conglomerates to disseminate a steady stream of right wing propaganda, including Nativist "Great Replacement" paranoia like that which you share with us. In the immortal words of the Pogo cartoon: "We have met the enemy and he is us."

Fair enough. But before you do, I'd like to elaborate a few things.
First, not all cultures are equal. Some cultures have better traits than others. Western culture is not perfect and far from it, which is why it's falling apart. But you have to wonder why so many other people from around the world want to exit their nation and culture, in exchange for life in western civilization. But in the last 200 years, western culture has been the blueprint for the ascent for humanity with industrial innovations, the arts, science, mathematics, ending slavery, advancements in human rights, and we've been really the most welcoming culture compared to the rest. But is it perfect? No, there's a lot that can be fixed and improved upon; which leads me to the next point.

Second, every culture can learn from one another. When cultures communicate and learn from each other, they incorporate and appropriate their knowledge to the betterment of that culture. For example, when the Conquistadors came to America, they were still using superstition to cure illnesses, and having the patient bite down on a stick to minimize the pain and agony while performing a surgery. Meanwhile the Incas had already developed effective methods of brain surgery. There's still a lot that this culture can learn from other cultures. I admire the Japanese culture of cleanliness. Schools in Japan don't need janitors, because the kids are disciplined to clean up everything before they leave. It'd be great if my culture that part of Japanese culture.

Third, not every culture has positive traits about it. As I mentioned in a few posts above. Some cultures see women as 2nd class citizens. Some cultures have no regard for the environment and litter everywhere. Some still shit in the streets, in public, during broad daylight. Some cultures still practice slavery in a few parts of the world as well. Not all cultures are equal. Therefore, I think it's reasonable to be selective on who gets to earn citizenship if they wish to join a new country.

I feel like the world is changing. Having Donald Trump as President has been part of that. The election will show whether or not we learned anything. But I think we're changing more than falling apart.
Yea. I saw a guy walking around with his wife in hijab yesterday. It reminded me that women aren't treated equally in all parts of the world. She may have wanted to wear it. Not just hijab, but one of those head dresses with the eyeholes. It was a black one. And being from the era of 9/11 of course it reminded me of the fear people have of middle easterners. But I also thought about how it would be fun to speak the guy's language and understand his culture. Anyway... Very different. If I smoked hash with the guy, I wondered if he would let his wife have some too or if that would be forbidden for women! It's really really different.

  19. American culture is stagnating. Our science and innovation is all for a people that don't appreciate the intellect. We are fast becoming the basic version of people.
