i think it's about the same now as it always has been. new people are fine until they act like idiots. back in the day there were a lot of stupid kids who thought they were hippies who joined and got chased off, now there's a lot of stupid old men who think this is a hookup site and get chased off.

this is the first time since i've been here that the people who have been posting here for years are kind of the out group though. it's different, but not really a problem or anything.

i thought you were one of the perverts until i realized the leather shorts were a joke.

Never really noticed any "in group" or "out group" since i've been here. Either i'm oblivious to most things or i don't pay attention to stupid things. Probably a combination of the two.

I don't belong in either. Some seem to have a bottled up resentment while others seem cool with me. Either way all good. :D

The early to mid 2000s were the best years for these here forums I tell ya. I was grabbing lots of internet pussies in those days.

I think it was 2008-2009 when Hitler re-emerged via the crypt keeper of these here forums. The forums have not been the same since.

No... I was a fat and out of shape neckbeard in those days.

The muscle flexing faggotry was more like 2013. I am way stronger now than I was then.

Oh I'm horrified that such a respectful gent like yourself is basically a grunt!

Speak to anyone in real life about this forum and it will result in disaster 100% guaranteed, in some way or another.
Only internet introverts understand each other.
F you. Love you too. We respect each other, don't break that bond, slacker.

I can believe it. I didn't join until 2010, but In the early to mid 2000s I was part of other forums that were a lot more active. However, those forums today are all dead, and HF keeps running strong for a forum more than 2 decades old.

I do wish that a few of the subforums on here got the same level of attention and traffic as they did when I first joined. Yet this place is still good.

  16. I first logged in (hippy.com) in 2002. I was looking for an alternative to AOL's Marijuana Debate chat room. At that time there was no hippy chat room yet. I first signed into hip chat in 2005. Back then you could change names on the fly, so you didn't know who you were talking to unless they used their forum name. I was Yanker McShanker most of the time. Or Jalepeno Enema.

Around 2009 Skip made me a chat moderator, to piss off the other moderators, who immediately treated me like Trump! I refer to that time as the Mod Wars because there was a definite split. And it went on for more than a year, culminating in one asshole trying to set me up in real life. (I no longer allow worlds to collide). Things calmed down for a while, but we still had a lot of cliques, something moderators shouldn't get involved with. That became evident when one in particular took to banning anyone who didn't share their opinion. When this asshole banned me, it called all of the previous bannings into question (they didn't know I was a moderator).

Unfortunately a lot of those members never returned. Their accounts lie dormant. A few years ago we had another bout with a lot of bannings, but the members were doing it to themselves by conveniently forgetting that we have rules here. One is regarding personal attacks. Another is about ruminating about someone who was banned. I admit, it's not always easy to live by.

But I have seen other sites where things are substantially worse and the owners act like feudal lords (a couple in the UK as well). Hip Forums has managed to stay above water. And the rest of the media notices, but never seems to quote (who ARE all those guest accounts?!?!?). And I miss the aliens who used to frequent our chat room. For awhile it was the coolest chat in the galaxy!

I think I learned a few things there, but I am not quite sure what they were!

you never make anything great by looking only backwards. everything you build today IS tomorrow, so if you don't pay attention to that, you arrive at a tomorrow you don't like very much,
and if you really blind yourself about it, you just wonder how you got there and don't understand.

i think different people have different ideas about what being great means too. for some its about excitement, which i never have entirely understood,
and for some, me, its about what i would mean by mellowness, which is to not have external factors crippling imagination.

there's also two things i'm impressed by, in life, anywhere,
one is the diversity of the universe, and how that can't be intimidated by anything we can do to each other,
(we can destroy our own planet, but we can't expect the universe to be very impressed by our doing so)
and the other thing is what someone learns or figures out, how to create, that has occurred to them in their own thoughts and dreams.

and yah, excitement, hype, promotion, these are not among them, no matter how "creative" they may claim for making things be about money to be. (or competition or influence either)
