back in the early 70's I had longer hair. On a bet a grew a beard. And was promptly fired. The reason " I did not fit in with the other employees . At the time all were in their 40's or 50's buzz cut hair cuts and clean shaven. The funny part about it for me is that I had shaved that morning before going to work. I did not have any facial hair besides my eyebrows. The owner had looked at me and asked my name. Had a funny look on his face and said " didn't you have a beard ? " I told him it was on a bet, I won so I shaved it off. I think that was his whole base for firing me was because I had a beard and did not fit in.
I told that is fine. Let me finish out my day if you don't mind. And then we will be done. He agreed. That afternoon they had me scheduled to work overtime. So I stayed. My relief did not come in. So I stayed to cover those hours. At 8 AM the next morning The owner came in and saw me working. He asked what I was doing here. I told him that he never told anyone and that I was told to work OT my relief never showed And I was asked to cover those hours so I did. Getting a little pissed he called the supervisor over and said that had fired me yesterday and why the hell I was still working . The supervisor told him that had I not worked they would have had to shut down the production. That I was the only one to run that one production line. So I just stood there with a big shit eating grin on my face as he got madder and madder. Then he told the supervisor to escort me out of the building that I was fired. As I was being excorted out the supervisor told me that he is going to shut down the production line because there is no one here that can run the line after I leave. So I continued out to my car. Climbed into the back seat and proceeded to fall asleep. I had worked 24 hours straight. The contract said that if you work 1 minute pass 2 full shifts all hours worked for 2 shifts become time and a half. Anything past two full shifts becomes double time.
So time and a half for 16 hrs basically equals 3 8 hour shifts plus 8 hours at double time equals 2 8hr shifts So I made 5 days worth of pay in 24 hours. A few hours later a tap on the car window work me up. It was the plant owner who had fired me. He said that he was sorry that he made a mistake and would I come back to work. It seems that they had lost almost a full shifts production because the one line was down and I was the only operator that knew how to set it up and run it.
I told him no. That it was a hostile environment. I asked him to make sure that all of my hours of OT were in my pay check. Got into the front seat of my car and left with a smile. Knowing that he had to be fuming from asking me to come back to work for him ..... And I turned him down. I really didn't care. It was only a fill in job for me at the time. Till I got hired for the one that I really wanted. .

Haha you’re my favorite member :D

He was a flannel wearing redneck with a long brown mullet. I suppose he could’ve been a Muslim, but it didn’t look like it.

  3. These days I'm debating on bugging a couple of offices. Some sort of shit is going down. I'd like to be ahead of it if possible. I hate going through hours of recordings, but it's worth it if I strike any gold at all . Like knowing when they're tossing me (or anyone else) out the door. It's a fluke that I found out the big fat company Christmas party won't be at one of the country clubs they usually book. It's going to be in a Homewood Suites meeting room. No wives/husbands, from 6 to 9, cash bar, finger foods (fried gristle and sugar), DJ.

BUT, that's just for the office crew and the logistics team. Sales and Marketing, they're renting the riverboat at Stone Mountain. Steak or Salmon, wives/husbands/3rds, open bar, band.

I'm of a mind to do some X and go in one of my DragonCon costumes.

I got fired and not for being a racist ****......
    (Just sayin)

By an “acting” manager who thought he’d stamp his authority on the place.

the following day I get a call to pop by the office.

On the way in my mentor told me the story of the actual managers return, and how loud he shouted at this chap, and if I wasn’t back in my spot the next day all hell would break loose.

(it must’ve been bloody loud shouting as it was my apprenticeship mechanics spot and the bays were a distance from the office separated by parts and booking offices)

so with the heads up prior to entering the office, I sat, and watched the bloke squirm.

then casually said nah..... I’ve sorted myself out and will be unavailable.
Knowing what problems it would cause him.

ta taaa. Eat your own shite.
That indeed was karma, and my favourite firing of all.

yeah, I got laid off for last in first out too, but tha ta fair enough........no drama.

    life goes on.
    saving accounts are useful.
so is having a bug out bag.
and unemployment compensation is a thing that exists, though it may sometimes be more hassle to collect then its worth.
and then of course, in theory at least, there's always another job somewhere, though for someone as non-social as myself this last is somewhat easier said then done.
and its this reason and only this reason that so much of my life i haven't always had one.

I don't know how much you were on per hour in Florida, but that sounds like it must have been a lot.

  8. Unfortunately you realize this after you've gone through all the trouble.

  9. I was barely making $15 per hour working in theme park set construction, so they were more than doubling my income, on a weird whim from a single line on my resume that was a decade old. Go figure..

About 15 years ago I had been working at a pub for a year as a chef when the pub was sold. The new owners thought they would improve things by replacing me with a woman who had no professional cooking experience. The owners conceded that there were no complaints about my food. Complaints rolled in think and fast with my replacement. Many local customers were lost. In the winter there were almost no visitors to the town.Food is a perishable item so turnover is needed The new owners were in a state of denial. Anyone can be a armchair critic , but it is another thing to come up with the goods yourself. The new owners were too proud to ask for my services again.

How could I possibly 'figure' that? What was the single line on your resume?

When I got fired from Burger King (I couldn't keep up with orders on the monitor)I looked down at my feet and said "Oh....Okay" and walked away.

When I got fired from Photography Unlimited (I ran the company vehicle out of engine oil resulting in the engine blowing up driving on the freeway) I looked down at my feet and said "Oh....Okay" and walked away.

When I got fired from Lincoln Contractors Supply( I paintballed the entire maintenance shop) I looked down at my feet and said "Oh....Okay" and walked away.

I'm sure if I get fired from this job I'll look down at my feet and say "Oh....Okay" and walk away.

Seems to work looking down at feet and sayin "Oh Okay...."

  17. I'm not hearing much from people here who have been fired and actually did any self improvement to be a better person and worker. Instead of blaming others, why not look in the mirror at that person and blame him or her ..than get started to change your life for the better?
Blaming others for your problems is another way of avoiding change. It's a good strategy for people who would rather complain about their circumstances in life, rather than changing and improving them..
    Inertia isn't the solution...

  18. That I had operated a Solar gas turbine generator when I was a sailor.

I got out of the Navy in the early 80s, so it was the only odd detail from that time that was still on my resume in the late 90s. Construction work was odd for me since I had a computer science degree. But my resume was floating around on Monster and a recruiter from PenPower (which no longer exists) gave me a call.

  19. There's a stigma to being fired. The term itself generally means you fucked up. But that's not always the case. Too often it's because somebody higher up the ladder made a poor business decision and the only way to deal with a sale that didn't go through or a contract that wasn't signed, is to shed personnel. So plenty of people are removed from their job for shit they didn't do wrong. It's not the same as everyone in prison being "innocent" or "framed" as so many are apt to describe.

When I lived in Florida the problem was layoffs. Which qualified a person for unemployment, but often the employers would just automatically appeal, so the state would automatically deny your unemployment claim, forcing you to appeal back. Most of the time the employer lost their appeal because they failed to prove incompetence. But they appeal to try to save a buck from the people they shoved out to the street.

Employers do a lot of sinister shit. Not "ALL" of them, of course. But enough of them to force the government into creating regulations to keep it from getting out of hand. As they go, Disney was one of the worst employers I ever had, constant turmoil and daily threats to your job.
