Perhaps nuclear power is the answer to the peak oil crisis?
Worth looking into definitely, and it seems the government agrees, at least to a point... :D
    Wired article
    What do you think? :D

I don't know.... there's so many dangers that come with nuclear power... too many... that doesn't mean it won't happen though, our government uses pesticides that have been banned in all EU countries...

    The thought scares me.

It would definitely be beneficial if the US wasn't so dependant on foreign oil, so maybe nuclear energy isn't such a bad idea....of course, there's always a concern over growing an extra arm/testicle from radiation...er..uhm...yeah. :D

Nuclear is good. to some point. It's unstable and really dangerous, would theer be one error, it would end in millions of dead.

They haven't built any new plants in decades, the technology has improved a lot, and it is relatively safe... Aslo, as far as nuclear waste, that can be recycled... Normal nuclear waste still has 95% of it's energy...

I think we should slow down a little.. i think we are still dealing with the data that has been gathered over the last 30 years..it needs the scrutiny and debunking like past evolutions in our behaviour and understanding of our world...even albert einstein got things wrong and his understanding failed when some one challenged his belief , and he was like well clever. I think we should continue too use the means we are now .. yeah richer stable (economicaly and geologicaly) countries should jump onto the next nuclear revolution , hopefuly hippy zealots (no offense to anyone) won't decry such things like countless othe doom merchants did in history when something against the norm and 'revolutionary' came about.

No, it's when I'm too tired to care and like to spice things up and don't really care if it's dull.

Nuclear power is incredibly safe, when done properly.

A self containg system has been a problem for years, but with modern technology, it can be done safely.

And some forms of fusion produces no radiation.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusion_power

Proper containment of nuculear fusion can be done a variety of ways, the most promising being a controlled magnetic field.

    http://www.fusion.org.uk/

People get really uncomfortable when they hear the word nuclear, but its largely a misunderstanding of the science behind it.

I think it's a pretty good long term solution, and it's getting more efficient, and cheaper. Also the recyclability of the waste is good, except that weapons grade materials are a byproduct of the process...
