I went to The annual Bob Marley ceremony at Alabam A&M college tonight and it was awesome. We had a moment of silence for three children they found dead in a local house. I believe their mother starved or suffocated them... sad stuff. We then did this tradition where you say the name of a deceased person and then pour water on a plant, which represents new life and growth, and then say "Ishey"(sp) in order to bless and honor their souls. At first they honored Bob Marley, and then opened the floor for the audiance to say their own. I said my grandfather's name who passed away two years ago this month. We then got to the low budget part of the show. They said we were going to watch a documentary of Bob Marley, but it turned out it was just VH1's Behind The Music someone had taped off the TV. It still had parts of the commercials in it. After that there were two poetry readings and then a live reggae show by a local band featuring a lot of Bob's Greatest, such as No Woman, No Cry and Natural Mystic. All in all it was a great ceremony, there was a good amount of people considering the size of the room, and even some true Rastafarians.
