I have a german shepard too and he's bigger than most children. He is actually a huge dog. Little dogs are more likely to get protective over a treat than big dogs, in my experience. None of my dogs would EVER bite someone over a treat or their food. A stranger can stick their hand in their food dish and it doesn't matter. They are all very well trained. It really depends on the owners, not the dogs. Of course their are exception. I had a chow once that was the meanest dog I've ever seen. No one could go around her but my family. She bit a couple people and we had to pay some doctor bills, but all of those people had been warned to stay away from her. Thats the only dog I've ever had to keep on a leash.

owners can be held for manslaughter for having a dog who attacked and killed someone. so that should be deterrant enough for people to get a dog like that. still doesnt stop people from getting those dogs, or kids or people from getting hurt or killed.

    Back up your opinion sister.

I honestly do not believe they are any more dangerous than any other dog. You only hear about pitbull attacks more often because people want a reason to dislike these dogs. Fear makes people do strange things. How are they any different than any other dog? Because their jaw is more powerful??

I see your point on this. Of course a chihuahua is not looked at as dangerous because of it's size. Maybe I should try and straighten this out a bit.

I surely was not including small dogs in this. They don't present much of a threat. I was speaking of large dogs. I don't think that my pitbull is any more, or less, dangerous than my german shepard. What I'm really saying is that a dog shouldn't be classified as dangerous because of their breed.

If a chihuahua, at it's present size, could inflict as much injury as a large dog, how many people would be scared and demand a ban on them?

if a chinuahua tried to bite you, all you have to do is step on them.

nah, pit bulls are KNOWN to go nuts and attack even their owners that have treated them to a good, loving environment.

i love all dogs/animals.. but it's true, those dogs instincts can go nuts.. not always, of course.

well a st bernard is even bigger than a pit bull, and do you ever hear any reports of one of those dogs attacking someone?? or killing someone?? well, I guess there is cujo, but he was a story made up by that mastermind, steven king. that doesnt count.

I think pitbulls are only KNOWN to go nuts is because people make such an issue over these dogs attacking. Of course a dog attacking a person is a big deal, but they are not the only dogs to attack. I know that other dogs do attack, but I never see anything about it on the news. I think these dogs are unfairly discriminated against.

Also, I don't keep any of my dogs on a leash, but I have ten acres that runs into national forest and no close neighbours, so it's not needed. I could maybe understand a ban on these dogs in city limits, but I think if they go that far, they should ban all large dogs then. I my self feel like large dogs need room to run.

I think I could argue on this topic for weeks straight. :$

thats what I thought you were talking about...... cities banning dogs like pit bulls and rotweilers... I know my hometown put a ban on those dogs. and no one really fought it, except for the white trash who think they need to protect their rat infested house.

I'm surely not white trash, but if I lived in a city that placed a ban on a breed of dog that I owned, I'd fight it to be sure!

I wasn't just talking about inside city limits though. Soon enough they will be trying to place a ban that covers the whole United States. I know that some places in Canada as well have bans up and more are on the way.

What they need to do is discourage breeding, and imprison the deusche bags that breed the dogs to fight them. I don't think an entire breed should be banned, but aggression can definitely vary from breed to breed. The pit bull was bred to fight in a small, enclosed area. That doesn't mean they can't be great pets though. It is all about how the owner raises the pup in my opinion.
