I've owned several dogs that people would call 'dangerous', but they have all been excellent dogs. Right now I have three dogs, two of which are large dogs that people are generally scared of. One is a pitbull. In several places they have a ban and pitbulls. I just do not think that is fair. These dogs have a bad reputation, but if they are raised right they make great pets. Any dog can snap, just as humans can. People that fight dogs should be arrested in my opinion, but the dogs should not be punished. They will not let us adopt any dog that has the reputation of being dangerous at our local humane society. Thats also not fair in my opinion. These dogs are protective, loyal and loving. I for one don't want a dog that looks like a wussy. I want my dogs to scare off people. How do you feel about these so called dangerous dogs and should they be banned?
they should be banned because most people train them to be killers. there are always exceptions to the rule though, and they can be just as gentle and loving as any other dog. it is how you train them. most people that get pitbulls use them as guard dogs and train them to attack and maim. too many people get hurt or die by pitbulls or any other dog that was trained to attack...... or they were neglected and abused.
You don't have to train a pit bull to be a guard dog... they do that on instinct. Usually, big dogs seem nicer to me... its a lotta little wimpy dogs that yip a lot that I can't stand. Theres no point in banning large dogs... they're usually great pets as long as they're taken care of.
So then we should just ban all dogs?? Placing a ban on certain dogs is unfair. It's the same as putting a ban on guns because some people are not responsible enough for them. Cmon now. I think pitbulls are one of the best breeds. The fellow above was correct when saying you don't have to train a pitbull to protect his territory, it's a natural instinct for them. All my dogs will attack if they feel that I am being threatened. It's because they love me and I am the alpha female. We are a pack, my dogs as I. I would attack and maim if I saw someone hurting one of my dogs. Pitbulls are proud, happy, intelligent, protective and playful dogs. They are really far from vicious. They don't need to be beaten or treated badly. These dogs are so submissive actually. They just want to please the ones they love. Humans have exploited these dogs. They are victims.
My rent's used to have a rot... the thing was so nice... it'd just follow you around... she loved strangers too. Unless you were a little stuffed toy, then she'd tear ya ass up. Grrr..
is a chow chow consered dangerous? i had a black chow chow named spunky and he was the sweetest dog ever. i never trained him to be a guard dog tho because we already had a mutt that held that down. But if someone fucked with me spunky would start growling and once i got into a fight wit my brother and spunky bit his leg and pulled him away from me. a couple times i was hangin out in a our woods spot near my backyard and a snake would slither over and spunky would jsut go headon running towards it and juke it out at the last second when it tried to attack him and kill it.
er, i love pits if they are treated right just like all dogs. however- true story- about five years back, my neighbors had a pit, treated him right and he killed their three-year old child... never showed any aggresion until then. i think they have aggresion in them and id worry if i had a small child. however, i do think they have such a bad rep and it's usually how they are treated.
all dogs have natural instincts to protect and serve. its the way the person handles the dogs that make them even more aggressive. and when a pit bull gets aggressive, its a hell of alot worse than if a terrier got aggressive. they have powerful jaws, and they can kill, small kids in fact. you know the people that always get a pit bull to protect their property?? they are those people that live in a trailer park, or a run down house with tarp covering broken windows.... what do they have to protect, really??? those dogs are usually neglected and abused and treated like crap, and they get vicious. yes some people do treat dogs well, and should be commended, but pit bulls are dangerous and too many people do not know how to handle them properly.
so, ryan, you are denying that a nicely trained pit cant kill a child? that's all im saying- instincts. i think there insticts are much more then other dogs. if i have a newborn, i wouldnt have a pit, just me. not saying that they will do that but you know
so none of you think that they can become aggresive and kill babies or toddlers when they are treated well?
nope and Im not denying that...... that is good enough reason to get those dogs banned. they are dangerous. I said they have natural instincts to protect. but what makes them even more dangerous are owners that treat their dogs like shit......
well, i dont think they should be banned. but i think people should think and not have babies and get a new pit... like they do around here
little kids dont know when to stay away from a dog who is protecting its owner, or its food. little kids are smaller than those pit bulls and/or rotweilers, and they are more than likely to get killed by a dog like that. Ive seen my parents dog, who is just a terrier, get really mean and protective of some treats he would have on the floor, and if anyone tried to take it from him, he would attack. the thing is with pitbulls and rotweilers, though, is that they have strong jaws and they clamp down, and its hard to get them to even release. they are dangerous.
If you wouldn't have a pitbull with a small child, then you shouldn't have a dog at all. Pitbulls are not more dangerous than any other dog. They are able to inflict more damage than most dogs though. Their jaws lock onto whatever they are biting. Normally, they don't let go until they are told to or they kill whatever it is. I tied a rope to a tree limb and my pitbulls will bite ahold and hang there. He loves it. Anyways, pitbulls are just like any other dog. All dogs can snap and attack at anytime. One is not more dangerous than the other.
its not only that but, some owners dont always keep their pets on a leash, like they should. just having a neighbour with a pit bull or rotweiler, and having little kids in the neighbourhood, I would be scared as all hell. dogs can always get away, get off their leash, or find their way out of a fence.
i feel ya. in that case though it's the parent's and owner's responsibility. im totally not for banning anything. just for personal knowlegdge and responsibility (altho it wont happen in our life times)
yeah, i was talking talking from my experience JUST abouit pits that did that in a home.. what you are talking about is a diff. story, falling even more so on the owner
that is so untrue. I would say that a rotweiler is alot more dangerous than a chihuahua. there are different grades. most dogs would just snap, or bite, if they do attack. the dogs were are talking about here clamp down, and hold that bite. they dont just snap. they grab a hold. and they could swing little kids around like a rag doll in their jaws. toy dogs cant do that, terriers cant do that. hunting dogs normally dont (there are exceptions). most of the time it is guard dogs like rotweilers and pit bulls. dobermans too.
