it is a wonderful book, and you might find that the teachings come back to you even a while after finishing the book. i met and recieved blessings from sogyal Rinpoche this year and he is a very inspiring person...if you ever get the chance to go to one of his public talks grab it with both hands. enjoy!

Is this the same as the Tibetan Book of the Dead?

no, the tibetan book of the dead is an ancient text which has been around for a long time, its purpose is for it to be read to a person just before they die to help with the process. of course reading this and studying it too provides great merit.

    its a difficult read though.
the Tibetan book of living and dying is by an author who is very much still alive and gives teachings all around the world. its also a much easier read. id recommend it!:)
    hope this helped, namaste

Where did you get to meet him? I'm going to India in March and will be going to Dharamsala and will hopefully get to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama, I'm also going to Sikkim where the Karmapa tibetan buddhists are situated and will hopefully get to meet His Holiness Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje aswell.

I met him in Edinburgh when he was giving teachings and a blessing here. I have also met Ringu Tulku Rinpoche, and he is coming over again in a few months to give some more teachings. we are so lucky to have these teachers available to us these days.

amazing for you to go to Dharamsala! I plan to go next summer to meet H H the Karmapa, shall be a wonderful experience! I planned to go on a pilgramage this spring with my teacher to Milaripa's caves but unfortunately university ties prevent it.....after uni though who knows!

Your lucky aswell in Scotland to have the Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery (http://www.samyeling.com), my tai-chi teacher, who is a tibetan Buddhist is hoping to hold a retreat over there during the summer, I would've headed over but I'll miss it due to being in Asia for the next year. Are you from Edinburgh then or where in Scotland?

:) i know Samye Ling and the teachers there very well. its a wonderful place to visit but, as anywhere does have inter-politics going on, which is good to avoid!
I live and study in edinburgh right now but am from further up north from Montrose. what part of Ireland are you from? isn't there a zen centre over your way?

I live in Meath, tis about an hour outside Dublin. There's a zen dojo in Dublin alright but it's only open at certain times, normally real early from about 7am to 8/9am and I've only been to it once. Rigpa have a retreat place in cork on the west coast but I've never been.
