I was there in ‘99 and went back in 2018. With the exception of a few new small businesses, nothing has changed there at all. “The Land that Time Forgot”. Fuck that place!
I knew I'd have said Berlin. Sydney too, was never too fond of Sydney. Had some great nights there but erggh. Stinks.
South Korea. Horrible people mostly. But also not terribly scenic and historical sites were hohum. Considering the small size of the country and the large population, there is no where to go that is isolated and you can be alone in nature. I hear you can visit the border with North Korea... I never did it. A very homogenous, racist overly conservative culture. Great shopping and food. But doesn't make up for the rest of it.
Odessa Texas, my hometown. It's famous for the recent mass shooting and Friday Night Lights. It reeks of oil, and it's extremely flat and treeless, leaving the skies a bland red with dust.
Been there twice. People can be rude as hell there. They don’t take to kindly to Westerners unless you’re spending money.
Wick - Scotland. Pretty grim place . We had thought it would be much nicer being right at the top of Scotland . The locals we met were quite nice
Wick is not the worst place in Scotland mate. Glasgow on the other-hand can be very unpleasant. Especially in certain areas. My S/O is from there so of course I am going to be defensive.
Trudging thru the woods of Florence City, WI in January of 1968. As we exited the carryall to go to work, the Iron River radio station announced the temp was minus 35 F with a 30 mph wind and the windchill was minus 70 F. The cold had frozen all the moisture out of the snow and even with snowshoes we sank in about 2 feet. What a miserable day of work.
They might have undergone some gentrification in the past decade but: Richmond, California And East Oakland, California Honorable mention to San Bernadino, California or it might have been a town bordering it, just because I went there more frequently then the aformentioned places for raves.
My dad was at Ft. Polk for AIT training in '68 and I remember him talking about Sleesville. If you got sent to Ft. Polk for training then basically it meant your next stop was Vietnam. He hated Ft. Polk, Leesville, Louisiana, Vietnam and basically everything else about being drafted.
Every bit of that tied together was just a horrible time: ‘68- draft- Ft Polk- Vietnam (shitty time) I seriously don’t blame him for feeling the way he did!
