I second you .. Metallica started a free fall dive to sh*t afterwards .. best track of all time from your point????
In my case it wasn't a reaction to their new records. I just stopped noticing new music altogether after their black album. Not as a reaction to their black album, but simply because that was when I stopped. I didn't even realize it when Metallica's subsequent records were released. I only found out about their subsequent records a few years ago when I looked them up on Wikipedia. I was also completely oblivious to the existence of Nirvana and grunge music in the 1990s. Although I was aware that alternative music was really big. In retrospect, I wish I'd stayed interested in music and gotten into technical death metal in the '90s. I've listened to some of the music I've missed, and Death's Symbolic is pretty good. It would have been neat to see them in concert. Gosh. I don't even know where to start. I listened to entire albums back then. And generally the entire catalogue back to back. Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Overkill, Ozzy, I just listened to them all over and over again. Ride the Lightning was my first Metallica album. Master of Puppets was already out when I got it, but I was a clueless kid and just bought it totally randomly. As my first Metallica album it resonates with me, so I guess I'll pick Creeping Death. But really I don't have a favorite. Since this thread is about concerts, has anyone else discovered bootlegs of concerts that they were actually at? I've found bootlegs of three concerts that I attended (two of them were Metallica concerts touring for the black album). The quality of two of the bootlegs sucks, but one of the Metallica bootlegs is pretty good (tapped directly from the arena's audio and video feed). The only problem with that one is the bootlegger doesn't want to get into trouble so they have only released part of the concert and skipped all the best songs. I've tried to pick myself out of the audience in the videos since I know exactly where I was. But no luck.
Death's Symbolic is a Masterpiece .. I started listening to Metallica somewhere in 1997 .. i was 12 back then .. couldn't listen to them any earlier .. never attended a Concert .. only some cover concerts in Egypt where i was .. i Would pay anything to have attended S&M in 1999 .. i can memorize every single instrument's line throughout the concert .. \m/
Does anyone remember “The New Song”? It was played live a few times (I think back in 06... First time in Germany) before they recorded Death Magnetic. The first minute of that was pretty sick. Surprised they didn’t use that riff. There was also “The Other New Song”, which was debuted on the same tour... I think played for the first time in Korea. Much punkier.
My resume is only seen them once. I'm content with that. The band I see probably most would be amon Amarth, behemoth can't remember how many times now... Can't remember some of the shows either. so they must have been good. King parrot, but before they were big. Cannibal corpse of course.
I once saw Diamond Head at a small bar in Toronto in front of about 150 people. When we left, my friend said “Metallica have more people in their crew than the entire audience.” They played “Am I Evil? “ last and the crowd went insane. I actually saw Svart Crown and King Parrot at the same venue and they managed to get a bigger turnout than Diamond Head. Surprising.
Awesome, we was seeing King parrot when they just on local Aussie tours in front of 18 people at the places we lived lol. The singer always came up to me and my wife and yelling and screaming our faces, and once he picked up a stack of glasses and just pelted them into the ground. I haven't seen them since they made it big. Even when go visit my family and if friend goes out to a gig it was usually king parrot for some reason too they toured relentlessly to get a fan base. Worked though. I bought the first LP vinyl from the singer before a show. He was like, shocked lol.
Bands these days charge a fortune. I think metallica went downhill after the black album. Seen them twice, in 88ish then 2009 on the World Magnetic Tour. Same goes with Maiden, they were so distorted at a concert, even Bruce apologised, I vowed never to waste my monies on them again. RUSH, they were brilliant live, no support from the late 90's. And they didn't rip off fans with high ticket prices!
Its Slipknot... they're awesome live man.. and they dont come down our way that often. I'll be attending in Perth. And of course your not to old for it.
Back a few days ago I had a friend that was a second cousin to Jason (see I told you a few days ago) and he got me free tickets and backstage passes. It was pretty freaking awesome. The Cult was the opening act and I was able to meet both bands and drink beer backstage with them. I was invited back to the hotel for the after show party but alas it wasn't working out
They pretty much don't even play any newer material at their shows, not even the one I went to, was 1 song from Death Magnetic, everything else but Fuel/Memory Remains was all Justice and Earlier. But sure, if you want to hear early Metallica you may as well see a shitty cover band, might have the sound you like.
If you think Metallica played shitty during their first albums. But I don't care about Metallica anymore ever since Reload.
