Just a little info for anyone browsing this forum who might believe in the gateway theory (the theory that smoking marijuana leads to the abuse of other harder drugs)
that theory came from the government i pity anyone who believes that iots ones choice to switch to a harder drug
its up to the people with experience to determine that i think. for me, getting high seemed to get weaker and weaker, so i tried harder drugs to get me high off my ass.
That's right, the so-called "gateway drug theory" or "gateway theory" or "stepping stone theory" or what-have-you has been largely discredited by the scientific community. Only NIDA and the rest of the government pushes the Gateway Drug theory because they can sell the story to kids early, when they're young, when they haven't heard anything else. Well, that's what drug education is. They feed you a load of bullshit when you're young and have no opinion, in order to create a negative opinion of drugs for you. It's sad. Anyone who is well-educated on the topic can tell you that it's all lies and misinformation, since we know that kids are introducted to substances like caffeine, sugar, chocolate, etc first, and sometimes alcohol and tobacco. It's probably just not possible to link one drug's usage to another's. There's just no connection anyway.
how is this for gateway theory? the first drug i ever used was acid. second was pot. third was alcohol.
Marijuana can definitely be a gateway drug. For me it was. Getting high on pot made me realize how awesome it is to leave sobriety. I've tried coke and salvia, only because marijuana feels awesome. Granted, I'm not addicted to either one, but pot still led me to try other drugs, and I'm bound to try more. It all has to do with the personality of the user.
I just don't buy the gateway theory. I have a close relative who takes a lot of pain medication and gives it away freely if you even suggest you have a headache, but I've never had an interest. I have no desire to try coke or crack, although I would like to sample acid and mushrooms.
The only aspect in my opinion of marijuana that could lead to one trying additional drugs is the fact that it's illegal and that it's sold on the black market. I think that's the only link.
most people drink alcohal first and what about caffeen little kids drink it and high on the list of adictives the gate way theory was made because they can't really find a good reason not to smoke pot . its kind of funny they don't talk about when you take a really big hit and hypervinalate(sorry can't spell) and fall down . you could hit your head or something.
Drugs lead to doing other drugs That is the real gateway trend it jsut so happens that most people do weed as their first 'drug' (though alchohol is a drug, along with caffiene and nicotine, its not seen that way by most people, and the gateway process works on the way people percieve 'doing drugs', not a chemical process of taking psychoactive chemicals) It doesnt affect everyone though, like almost anything, but does affect a lot of people.
oh yeah i drank and smoked cigs and tried E before i ever took my first hit of weed. Bill man your one smart motherfucker! i swear dude the shit you pull out of a hat makes Ashcroft and his flunkies look like apes.
I have a cousin who started out smoking when he was young, and continued to try every "common" drug except for acid. He said he did this because he was comfortable leaving his normal state of mind. The "gateway theory" happens
It dosent! I know people who have been smoking it for 25 years and never touched another drug and wouldnt! You het all this bad prss for Pot, weed what ever you wanna call it but waht about drinking? Dosent that ruin your liver? but it never gets bad press, if fact I heard on the news today that pubs and clubs in uk have been given the go ahead to apply for opening 24 hours a day, the government say this will stop binge drinking. I dont think soo, and you get fined for having a toot in your own home! Thats in the crummy UK any way!
just because your friends dont do other drinks doesnt mean that most people who do weed try other 'drugs' too
