For those of you who like to mod routers I have found some interesting
hacks that serve to make a Netgear WGT624 responsive to being controlled via telnet commands on the LAN side of the router with the implication that it MAY BE possible to replace the netgear firmware with
either OPEN WRT or DD-WRT running as the firmware. It achieves this by allowing the owner to make a backdoor into the router and activate the telnet commands. Once this is achieved you can then access the router via telnet or via the web interface. The telnet commands allow you to finetune the router in a way the web interface doesnt.
Its a very interesting hack and since I started by modifying old Firebox Routers to work from linux rather than DOS and moved on to others I was amazed to find such an inexpensive router with these features. I havent replaced the firmware on mine yet and wont help people do this unless they fully accept that the responsibility is entirely theirs and also that there is a possibility of messing the router up beyond repair and the less experienced you are the stronger that possibility becomes. So only do these things if you can afford to lose the router. If you achieve the goal it teaches you something about patience, about how routers work, and increases your knowledge of networking and computers.

Have a go if you have an old netgear WGT624 knocking about.

These instructions do not allow people to go hacking other peoples routers and they do not allow people to start doing illegal things, the term hack in this case simply means "modification"
    READ THEM CAREFULLY BEFORE STARTING

take a look, for those of you with an interest in this kind of thing these are very good manuals and discussions in the end though these people fail to actually mod the routers its a step in the right direction

for those with a bricked wgt624 look here theres some hope for you yet

It would be much better if you would start a new thread instead of bumping this one in top. Anywhere this is a good question, the info that is shared there is a little bit old. If you are interested in configurating your router manually just text 192.168.0.1 and you will be moved to settings and details about your router. If you don't know all the meaning of those, just go www.whatsmyrouterip.com and here you will find more than you need about router configuration and any other features.

I was looking to see about the UART pin out of a WRT624 and came across this forum on Google and I went and created an account here for one singular purpose... To tell you come off as a loud mouthed know-it-all twat. I seriously thought your response was a joke and had to reread it several times.

If your response to that lengthy technical post is whatever jumble fuck of mental retardation is all you have to contribute then I highly encourage you to shut the fuck up and go play cards or watch old Matlock episodes and call your grandkids. Holy fuck, I had to literally stop and dedicate all of my attention to wanting to smash your keyboard.

    Wow.

This is my vote for the most amusing post of the day so far!
Not only is he all heated up about the subject, he's about 10 years late with his commentary.
    Amused I am!
