The recent parade of headlines " another woman comes forward " one after the other was a preemptive shot across the bow of Joe Biden and his possible campaign. My thinking at the time was " so he sniffed someones hair " big deal , ha. It was easy to see why those stories had short time spans.

Now it's official the battle ensues between those anxious to shove moderates like Biden to the carpet and centrists ( few that are left ) . An interesting fact is Joe Biden is 76 and Bernie Sanders is 77 a point which may inevitably work against both of them in some areas of the country as the party seems to be shifting to younger fresher faces .

Writing off Joe Biden may prove a mistake however as he has enormous savvy and practically speaking 47 years experience in national politics , eight of them as Vice President.

Based on the last election I think the Democrats' best chance is to find an admitted sexual predator who lies an average of 2.5 times an hour, makes fun of handicapped people, undermines his own government and allies, doesn't believe in the free press or court system, hires cronies and inept family members, hates war heroes, doesn't read security briefings, meets Putin for secret talks with no U.S. citizens present and keeps no record of what was discussed, falls in love with North Korean dictators, cheats at golf, and has bad hair and orange skin.

I am generally opposed to people older than seventy running for office.
However, if the goal is to get rid of trump, then the dems have to appeal to the people who vote. Biden appeals to those people. Bernie, and people like Beto, appeal to millenials. As we learned in 2016, if millenials don't get their way, they take their ball, and go home.

Note: I like Beto, but would rather see him as a vp.

By this logic, wouldnt that make Bernie a safer bet? People who vote will vote for him if he gets the nomination, correct? So he'll get the people who vote AND the millenials and their proverbial balls. Whereas if you think millenials wont vote for Biden, then he would only get the people who vote.

Or are you saying the people who vote wont actually vote for bernie? Wouldnt that make them people who dont vote and instead take their balls and go home?

Just trying to understand your logic here

I don't know what his logic is, but a big reason the Dems lost in 2016 was losing the older white blue collar vote--the Reagan Democrats in battleground states. It's not a question of keeping them in the tent but luring them back and newfangled programs like enfranchising felons aren't a big draw for them. Biden has long been a champion of labor and the working man. Both Biden and Bernie are going to have trouble with blacks, especially black women. But whoever the Dems go for, it'll be a binary choice: if it's Ms.Perfect or Else, we get the Donald for four more years!

I look forward to hearing Biden's detailed policies regarding how he'll bring jobs back to the US and help blue collar workers.

For right now Bernie has my vote on that one. He's staunchly pro union, frequently pickets with workers on strike, and he has a proven track record of putting the needs of working americans above the needs of corporations and the wealthy. Plus as someone in a relationship with a self employed blue collar worker who has no access to affordable healthcare, and as someone who wants to start a small business myself but cant leave my job because I need the insurance, i know his healthcare policies will directly benefit my family.

As for the black vote, Bernie picked up 7 endorsements by black lawmakers when he was in my state last week.

Let me rephrase this. Biden appeals to people in the center. People who consider themselves centrists are a larger demographic group than the the group that would vote for Sanders. You have to understand that I am talking about the primary elections.
I agree that if the nominee were to be Sanders, the people who vote, will vote for him.
All I am saying is that I think that it is a tougher row to hoe for Sanders to get the nomination.

One thing that you, and Okiefreak should realize is that unionization is not popular, and union membership is down.
In regards to bringing jobs back to this country, that's not so much a political problem as it is an economic one. Corporations answer more to the board of directors, and stock holders than they do politicians. A corporation's incentive is to keep shareholders happy.
As long as labor, and material costs remain higher in the us than a foreign country, jobs won't come back. No matter what trump or any politician says.

  10. Stop trying to paint Biden as some working class hero. He's a corporatist through and through.

There are still 14.7 million union members in the U.S., 10 % of the population.
Membership is highest among blacks, public service workers, and men.

The states with the largest union membership are California, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, and Washington.
The Dems need the key states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin to flip.
Clinton lost Michigan by 10,704 votes, Pennsylvania by 44,292 votes, and Wisconsin by 22,748 votes.

Michigan and PA have strong unions, so the Dems would be smart to court unions.

Oh, the primaries. In that case, I wouldnt count on millenials taking their balls home just yet.

Anyways, as for Unions, what Meagain said. Also, I dont think unions are unpopular so much as they are stifled by decades of pro business policies.

But I agree the presidential nominee will need to bring fresh ideas to address a changing global economy, as well as the looming threat of automation. I'm not really convinced Joe Biden is the best one to do that .

But this is why it's good the Democrat candidate field is so big and diverse this go round. Even candidates who dont get very far will inject some new ideas into the discussion in upcoming debates

The only redeemable qualities I see in Sanders is that he wants to legalize weed and he’s voted in favor of auditing the Fed. What else is there?

Even then, I like him more than I like most Democrats, believe it or not.

He's not beholden to corporate interests.
He wants to overturn citizens united
He's literally the only politician i've ever seen in my lifetime who has the courage and integrity to actually fight for his policies, rather than making empty promises

To that same vein he's the only politician who will fight for a single payer healthcare system. Others may say they're for single payer to get votes but they wont fight for it. I'm hesitant to really get into this with you because I know your standard reply is "but socialism!"
But as a libertarian surely you can understand how ridiculous it is to place the burden of healthcare costs on our employers and also can understand how it stifles small business creation because too many people like myself are scared to leave jobs that provide health insurance

Anyways a single payer healthcare system is the single most important issue to me personally so its a no brainer that I would vote for Bernie

That's 10% of the workforce, 4% of the population.

Biden/Harris..Biden will pull a lot of older white voters that have had all they can stomach of Trump. Biden in the race is the kiss of death for Trump's reelection chances.

But it is in key states. Remember Clinton won the popular election.
Why wouldn't he want those votes?
