Hey everyone, I need some advice . I attend DeVry University in Denver, Colorado. Before I came here I went to a Community College where I am from north of Denver. Anyway I think this school is lame. There isn't anything to do, there is NO campus therefore no campus life. I want to be proud of my education and I definately don't think I can go apply for a position and be proud to tell them I graduated on the Dean's list from DeVry University. I also want my degree to be reputable, and let my employer know that I worked hard for it, and the school proves my point. Does this sound stupid?? I have less than 2 years left for my Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. Would it be worth the extra 30g's to transfer to somewhere like Bentley University in Massachusetts, I would definately be proud of that... What do you all think?
why spend 30 Gs extra for an out of state school in mass? whats wrong with U of Colorado? i'd think that'd be a decent cheap education...
30 grand is bit heavy just to be going ot a more well known university. i know when i go to college im not really gonna care because ill be thankful to be in college. my friend goes to the colorado university of mines (or something like that) and he says its a really great school.
It's all up to you. Personally I would get my degree at a well known school just because it will get you a better job (asuming your grades are good). I think you should speak to someone alittle more knowledgable and do what YOU want to do.do.
can you get into MIT or Carnegie Mellon? If you can and you don't have to take out a ton of loans, I guess go for it. But think this through first....do you want to be in a cut throat program like MIT? Is it your goal to be the absolute best and work for Microsoft or Intel? If the answers are yes, you should probably go to MIT or Carnegie Mellon. Would you rather have a more relaxed college experience? A more relaxed job with a smaller company? If these answers are yes, you might want to consider something like CU. MIT over CU? probably worth the extra $$ BC over CU? might be worth the extra $$ though i'm not sure....problem with something like BC is you'll be competing in the job market with all those other new england schools....like MIT, Carnegie Melon, etc. just something to think about... good luck humandraydel
my humble opinon:don't bother. graduate from deVry, try to get your desired job, and then-if you fail job searching attempts-apply to a better university. plus you can still get A job, to help pay for awesome cool college.
Humandraydel made some good points, and I agree I dont know a thing about DeVry, but I'd still say to stay there and finish your degree in whatever you're doing, and if you find a difficult job market, then check out the other schools. That way, if you feel you need better, you can do postgrad schooling somewhere else. But to spend so much more money on not much more than a "name brand" so to speak, seems foolish to me, unless you're hellbent on being the absolute top in your field. Think of how long you will have to work to pay off the loans. And by the way, top schools are no guarantee to getting a good job. Sometimes it can be, but there's a lot more to it than that.
