Glow Rods, anyone else?

Has anyone else recently descovered the joys of smoking with a glow rod? I've seen them a few times online, but just got to try one out for myself. I have to say, it really is MUCH better than using a lighter. There is no lighter fluid taste, it doesn't seem to burn but vaporize the bud. Overall MUCH smoother smoke, MUCH better tasting, and MUCH more potent!

For those of you that don't know a glow rod is a glass rod that is heated with a torch lighter to red hot, then pressed on the bud in the bowl. This way all the heat just comes from a hot piece of glass, not a flame. I notice there is almost NO black ash in the bowl, it just turns browner and browner until being sucked through.

 

so its basically like a vaporizer, why not jsut buy one?


i thought you meant a glow stick haha, oen time i broke oen and it squirted in my eye, i washed my eye int he sink and then my eye was glowing for a few hours.

 

is it a specific piece of glass you buy or could you use any ol' glass rod?

One reason is Vaporizors are very expensive (at least decent ones) This method isn't really vaping, just a way to get a smoother smoke. Many people (including me) enjoy ripping bongs, and aren't too keen on using a Vape. This is perfect because it's cheap, and you simply use whatever piece you have.

They make specific glass rods for this purpose, but you can use any glass that is thin at the end, it just needs to be able to be heated to red hot with a torch lighter. After thinking about this I heated up the small handle on one of my glass bowls and tried to use that as a glow rod. Took a bit longer to heat up, but worked just the same.

 

id like to try this but how do you heat the rod that hot wihtout using heaps of wasted energy?

bill, it burnt like a motherfucker at first but then i just flushed my eye out with water and then it quit.
