Just thought I'd drop a line to say we have started. We have done a little clearing for a parking area and also a trail to our first building site. I am putting up my first cabin standard frame to get it done quickly for something to live in. The floor and walls are up, and the roof will be on next week. We also discovered a very nice mountain spring on the land, crystal clear water it has. And talked to a neighbor near by that has a well only 135 feet deep and it has stayed good and clean for 20 years, so that is good news, as well. We have one guy moving out here in a week or so. He has been here visiting for the last meek and now is going to tie up loose ends and coming right back. His name is Darren and is 31. He has a degree in permaculture and has also built cob and rammed earth in New Zealand as well as straw bale. So he is a great addition to the cause. We also have a 28 year old woman with 3 kids coming in March, so that is exciting, And some others may be coming soon as well. We are thinking it best for all who come out to be able to buy a yurt or teepee to live in, or rough it in a tent, because of only being allowed to have permits for 3 main houses. We want to wait until we have the funds to build one of the main houses and then all who live on the land can throw down for that. Yurts and the like aren't subject to the same codes. Well, so this is the update for now, I will be posting pics on the site soon, so check it out, www.co-operativeeffort.com Withall respect as always---rabbit
I'm interested in learning more and corresponding with ya,it's just hard to get time right now.I homeschool my 10 year old and also have a boy who will be 2 next week. The kids come first, then there's housework, and on and on and by the time I get online...well,you know how it is.When I get a free minute I'd rather be sewing or knitting or reading so lately my email activity has been nearly nonexistant. But I am interested! How is your community going to work financially? Is there a business set up,or are you looking only for those folks who can kick in something substantial upfront (sadly not me). My husband works but it's not enough to do more than keep us afloat. We are good people willing to work hard and give all our energy to a community once we find the right fit.
right now we have quite a few ideas running around on the cottage businesses. We have a natural body products business, and also there is lots of beautiful manzanita on the property we will make rustic furniture with. We will have greenhouses and gardens and hopefully produce plenty of food. all of these things can be sold at the farmers markets around here. fortunately, there are 3 towns nearby with markets on different days of the week. it is early and time will tell what we end up doing financially for sure. we aren't asking for money up front from people, we are asking for dedication to make it work, though, and when the time comes we are asking for something kicked in to the main house(s). that "something" will be decided at that time, depending on what is available. we want people that come to either work an outside job somehwere or at least go to school, that way you can kinda take care of yourself for awhile until the land is fruitful on it's own. So do keep in contact if ya want to, my e-mail is rabbitseffort@yahoo.com www.co-operativeeffort.com
Way to go rabbit and willow success stories are so nice to see. Please keep us posted. Best to you both and the other incoming members Blessings on your Way
last night i burnt grass in the honor of my freinds prosperity and by name i called you and old wolf.... this is a ottawa tradition but it is said the keeper knows to whom you ask for but to call a man by name puts him in highest regard with the keeper.... sadly you guys are the perfect mates for a communal living structure... unfortunately i had tied all my resources up in the maine thing first but i have no regrets other than the distance that seperates our communities... bummer! needless to say best of luck to you guys.... and if shyt ever hits the fan as it sometimes does... you will be welcome here! igze-ibear-yeasterling!

I love your web site and the laws you have put to pen and paper, to govern your community. Truely the start of a working model, that I hope to model my own community after. It truely is great to share and exchange ideas here on this forum. I would like to come and visit some day. And if there is anything I can do from home in the way of research let me know. I have quite a collection of links to all kinds of reseach matereals. Peace and love on uyour way
