if a person is born with no sences...no touch, taste, sight, hearing or smell.... at the age of 18 would that person have a thought in his/her head?
they would have no language or reference base as we have to start with. I think it would be all colors and shapes in very great detail.
how could it be colours?? if they've never seen? colours where? they cant even imagin colours, because they've had no experience with em. i reckon, they'd probably have some sence of ...time... other than that, this question wrecks the head
If this unfortunate person had no sight, how would they have any perception of what colours or shapes were like? There would still be certain things, even without any of the five senses that this person would be able to feel. Sense of balance, for example, or the need for food. I don't know how anything mite manifest itself within the mind of such an individual, but I'm pretty sure they'd have things to think about.
close your eys. what do you see? I see colors. I wouldnt know to call them colors if I had never been taught that term but I still see em. I think in 18 years the person would have learned to manipulate those visuals to create many pleasing and scary visions to their perception. I doubt the shapes would be geometric, but it could happen, simply coincedentally.
I can see where you're coming from, and it seems like a good argument. But I think you've got to ask: Why do we see these colours when we close our eyes? Is it a trick of the mind, or something to do with the eyes themselves, where do they come from, and can we be sure that a blind person would actually see them as well? The answer is I don't know. Do you?
they would feel motion.... and even if they couldnt feel touch they coud feel the lack of motion even when energy is being used showing them that there is something obstructing their path..... there was a question in my psych class about a blind person who has felt a sphere and a cube and they have their vision restored and the question is if they can see the two objects but not touch them would they know which is which?
I think the human mind posseses the ability to create colors and that in 18 years with no other stimuli. htat they would show them selves to this person . Yes I agree mine are prolly memories of what I see, but I think 18 years is a long time to see black when you are capable of somehting else. I dont know Sooty, I thing they might be able to, but not if it was the very first thing they saw . now if the whole time this person was without sight sound and touch and taste, what if you had been blaring music into them. Vibration and what not. would that change anything?
is it not possible for them to imagine what their hands did as they touched them watch their hands and then compare to the structures edges etc they would probably have some sort of mental image in their mind
I don't know, but I do remember being told that an operation restored someone's sight, and when they were shown some pictures of different shapes they couldn't tell the difference.
i asked my friend who studys phycology a while ago, about blindness.. and they said- no- a blind person doesnt see- doesnt SEE, cant see black- cant see anything! when we picture being blind- we picture seeing black- but thats just because our minds cant comprehend what its actually like to see absolutly nothing- because you CANT see absolutly nothing. therefore, i dont think this person could see colours. at all. but- i cant know for sure. we cant imagine what it would be like for this person, maybe theyd have some sence of...why am i here? --but not in words-- ya, and like that person said before- the need for food, and sence of..space. but- they have no touch- no feeling- so how would they feel the hunger? hmmm... of corse, i dont think this person couldnt actually exist. its an interestin question thou
