    This may amuse you.

As you may have realized, although Jane has not posted on HF as yet, I opened the account so that either of us can post on the 'wilsjane' username.
A few years ago on another (now closed) site that we both used, one guy assumed that I was a transvestite and started sending page after page of what he wanted to do to me dressed as Wills and even more bizarre acts for when I was dressed as Jane.

I don't think that we have ever laughed as much. LOL

I love how there is never any questions asked or anything, to find out if you might be who he thinks, just throws it out there!

Just like the users looking to hook up, posting ridiculous in the introduction section.

But yeah, now that y'all mention it. I pretty much, never see the noobs loose in the forums.

I like to go into the introduce yourself section to post welcomes to people with a low amount of replies. Some days I reply to all of them, that's only when I'm supposed to be studying lol

The site that I mentioned above finally gave up the ghost and shut down after years of being drowned by trolls and spammers. During the last few months, in a final attempt to save the site, the admin staff (who I had got to know) started tracing the spam and troll accounts, only to discover that more than 95% of them originated from India.
Jane works with an Indian girl, who knows the areas that they were originating from extremely well and she simply refused to believe that it was possible, mainly because their was more spam than people who even spoke English in the villages concerned.
I am not a believer in conspiracy theories, but I started to wonder if a lot of this rubbish originates from Google, in their attempts to totally dominate the social internet market. The recent attacks on Facebook even go to heighten my concerns.
When sites run advertising, it is added by routing the servers through Google, so that they can add the appropriate advertising for more than 2000 regions. This basically gives them freedom to do whatever they like.
Fortunately HF have not signed a pact with the devil.

@wilsjane I never thought of it like that!

That must be why HF reminds me of pre-social media internet! I really do miss the days of geocities and significantly less spam.

    Urban Dictionary:

An older woman who frequents clubs in order to score with a much younger man.

An "older," experienced woman who happens to find herself in a sexual relationship (committed or not) with a younger man.

Few people realize the differences in the sizes of sites.
I want to ask you a question. No tricks, Just your first impression...
If you decided to view all new videos uploaded onto youtube during the last 24 hours, how long do you imagine that you would be sitting at your computer.
Remember just your gut feeling, without any research.

Very typical of what most people would assume. LOL
I will wait for makihiko to log on and give me his impression before I give you the answers.
Jane works for the UK government and when they researched how Google could monitor their sites to prevent terrorist propaganda, no one could believe the results.

well, I know that youtube has many many users, and I know how there is a sea of videos uploaded constantly. I keep up with a few youtubers, and most of them upload weekly or more.

so lets say 1 million active users post once a week, with an average video length of 10 minutes. *stares into space attempting some sort of maths*.... *mumbles* "1 mil, divided by seven, times 10, divided by (60x24) equals....."

    so I got 1478571 divided by 1440 = 1026.785...which is uhm?

I think 1440 minutes represents one day. so my guess is 1026.785 days

    holy hecking jeepers

You are still way out. Based on the number of videos uploaded on one day (figures provided by Google). Assuming that you watched them for 40 hours a week, (the working week of an employee) it would take you about 250 YEARS.
As I said, no one has any idea of the size of the internet.
Regarding checking the NEW videos in real time, Google would need to employ 20 million staff. Although no accurate figures were available for checking comments posted, it was estimated that it would need an additional 50 million staff to keep pace with them.
When people tell me that they fear that police and governments are snooping on their online activity, I can never stop laughing. Obliviously if you are suspected of terrorism, you can be checked out, but looking for terrorists at random is like looking for a needle in a haystack, except you don't even know which haystack the needle is in.
Other facts about Google servers are that worldwide they use more electricity than the output of a nuclear power station and the youtube servers alone would cover 5 football pitches.

One of more than 100 rows in small youtube server covering the Netherlands.

    That's insane! wow!

It's hard enough to find things, that you know you are looking for. That's crazy!
