I think Meliai touched on something that's really important to this issue. Socioeconomic factors. There is no greater cause of social problems perhaps than poverty. But anyway here is what I know. Age: It goes on to discuss Social Class, and Urban versus Rural Residence. By the way, there are more than one types of crime. You might be surprised to learn that corporate crime and white collar crime kill more people than violent crime. A lot more. The reason for the common misconception about there being so much violent crime (even if there is a decline) is because the media reports violent crime disproportionately to other types of crime. Corporate and White-Collar crime kill more people than violent crime does. Finally it (my Social Problems text) discusses Race and Ethnicity.
you asked me to share that story. We both understood before you asked that it was my own experience so there's no need to waste time pointing that out Anyways i'm willing to accept the "few bad eggs slipped through the cracks" narrative when the good cops start calling out the bad cops
You missed the part where he said he regretted doing that and felt like he let his team down so now people are burning his jersey Lol theatre of the absurd y'all
Yet you said this. "I cant answer that, it obviously depends on the cop but I will say I have witnessed blatant racism in the police force, the NYPD to be exact, first hand." Which indicated to me that you were saying that the NYPD as a whole is racist. But they do.
Bullshit. There are plenty of countries around the world much poorer than the US that dont have the same kind of "social problems" the US does Plenty of poorer countries around the world with loose gun controls that dont have homicide rates anywhere near the US Bangladesh has a homicide rate less than half the US, explain that by that "no greater cause" logic, They also dont have the same kind of drug problem the US does. Thats just the kind of sentiment you expressed is just what first worlders want to believe. Its more about a fake sense of entitlement
Unfortunately. I can see why he did it as he got in a ton of trouble with his coach and he owner of the Steelers. He could risk losing a multimillion dollar career in the NFL if he didn't. It's still pathetic and the Steelers would've looked horrible regardless if he went out of the locker room or not. Now, the steelers owner went into damage control mode and wrote a letter begging fans not to abandon the team for their political virtue signaling https://newswars.com/steelers-owner-begs-fans-not-to-abandon-team-over-national-anthem-protest
There are plenty of countries with high poverty and high crime rates, a lot of them do seem to be concentrated in the Americas though, interestingly enough...and a lot of crime in the Americas, including in the US, seems to be drug related Thats an interesting topic though, i'm going to give this some thought. I don't walk away from your posts very often saying that
I wonder if this is going to spread to the NBA. I mean, I know the Warriors aren't going to the White House and LeBron backed up the kneeling football players, but what's going to happen the first night of the season when that first national anthem is sung?
Fake entitlement. That's good. I like that. I always said it had to do with freedom. You know, our Constitution protects our "unalienable rights" outlined in the Declaration of Independence. And I think people confused the pursuit of happiness with achieved happiness. Happiness isn't a right. The pursuit of it is. And I think people get confused and think it means they're entitled to whatever the hell they want when they're actually only entitled to go out and try to achieve whatever the hell they want.
I think the black community is more concerned with 7 year olds with toy guns being shot in the head than thugs who kill other blacks. Just my guess.
So dumb though, professional athletes?, as if anyone is really going to believe they give a shit about the little guy Do some kind of lame protest, isnt racism in the south bad, then when the game is finished, jump in their porsche and drive to their new 7 bedroom mansion in the affluent suburb they recently moved to
Uh, even Obama had to deal with racism in this country. And he was the freakin' president. Now matter how much money or prestige or whatever black Americans get, they're still going to be subject to racism. Your hypothetical black athlete driving his Porsche in the racist south would almost certainly be pulled over and questioned for being a black guy in a Porsche
I'm probably an outlier here but I like when celebrities give a shit about something besides their own celebrity. I know its an inconvenience for fans who just want to be entertained, but if you have a platform most dont have, why not try to use it for something good? An NFL player who goes back to their mansion after a day of activism is better than an NFL player who goes back to his mansion after a day of dog fighting and wife beating at least
Basically this, plus, if it's okay for assholes on social media to spout off their political views and shit, why should professional athletes be criticized every time they open their mouths?
No one protested in the NASCAR race on Sunday. All drivers, teams, crews black white Asian.. All stood atriot:
Absolutely...people either forget or don't realize that with rights come responsibility. I have freedom of speech, freedom of religion choice, freedom of assembly, etc. but I don't have the right to slander someone or shout 'fire' in a crowded theatre, deny my children healthcare because I prefer faith healing, assemble a mob to do violence, etc. All this 'I have the right to...' shit really gets on my nerves sometimes. Where is all the talk about our responsibilities?
Famous YouTube cops like Officer401, Mike the Cop, and Donut operator call out bad cops when they see it. Plus I've been through the police academy and we analyze the actions of officers. The thing is, cops do call out other cops, its just that it's not portrayed in the media.
This is one of the few times I have disagreed with your view. It really gets on my nerves when celebrities 'take a stand' on these types of things; I feel they are just using the issue de jour to advance their own popularity. I feel the same way about celebrities/athletes/politicians that pray in public or campaign for their favorite candidate or anything similar. I'm not saying they shouldn't work to advance causes they care about, but using one's name to do it puts me off for some reason. I think if I were rich and famous I'd just give tons of money to those on the front line of the issues, the foot soldiers, and I'd stay quiet as to my involvement.
There were a bunch of other minorities in the US before during and after the civil war that faired just as bad or worse than slaves from africa or the carribean and their descendants Less than 20 years after the civil war, you had the Chinese exclusion act, something most modern day americans would have no clue about. Irish and Chinese immigrants during the gold rush and building the railways, it would have been pretty barbaric and brutal, god knows what the death toll was. You always hear black vs white from america, You never really hear the same gusto in regards to hispanic americans, non chinese asian americans (we all kind of assume chinese immigrants are wealthy nowadays, even though thats not the case), native americans. Were africam americans EVER at the bottom rung of that laddder?
