I Feel Humans Are Horrible

As they say, it takes all kinds of people to make a world. Some people care about others, some care only about themselves. Eventually most people learn it doesn't pay to be too self-serving or too self-sacrificing, one needs to achieve a certain balance. We must learn to appreciate the everyday courtesies we encounter rather than take them for granted. By the same token, when we encounter jerks we mustn't take it personally, we must realize they're jerks and move on.

I've become more optimistic as I've aged, despite having seen plenty of bad shit go down. Still, there are still times when I feel the world sucks, but I get over it. Just try to be a good person and live your life.

I actually am surrounded by really good people in my life, the problem isnt anyone I know personally

I think i've just been keeping up with world events a bit too much. I've developed this crazy anxiety about what can happen at the hands of my fellow man. Humans are capable of some horrendous things

Think I just need to take a break from the news and such, tune out the world for a while and focus on the good people in my life

 

Not really when you think about it, 7 billion of us, i'm surprised we dont kill each other more. Of course there probably will be a Nrth Korean missile strike right after I post this, to jinx what I said.

Seriously, thanks everyone. I posted this in the midst of an anxiety attack last night and reading your replies this morning has really helped give me some perspective

 

There are some truly amazing people in this world, who would give you the shirt of their back if you needed it. There are also leeches in this world that would take the shirt, not because they truly needed it, but just because they could. It is people like that who make the truly kind, generous people stop being so giving. It gets old to be taken advantage of! The self interested jerks who take, take, take, make the good people seem more scarce because they tend to do their good deeds from the shadows to avoid being overwhelmed by unappreciative assholes.

I've known some phenomenal people in my life, and it has been life changing and rewarding. Unfortunately, I've known more people who would screw someone over just because it was easier than working for a living. It takes all kinds. Personally, I prefer to remember those that were kind and generous, and try to surround myself with them. As opposed to the negative, users and abusers. Those kind of people, I get rid of as quickly as possible. Who needs that kind of negativity in their life? Make room for the positive influences, and cherish them while you have them.

I have found that "Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs" are the perfect psychological map for human behavior based on needs and wants.
Knowing this pyramid will give you insight as to what stage an individual is dwelling at and make predictability of how they will react and will behave a lot easier.
If your needs aren't taken care of, you will focus on that aspect of your life until they become satisfied. and then you can move onto your wants.
Once your needs and wants are satisfied, you can then be free to develop in other areas.

its about cultures and how we make them.

humans, like everything else in the real universe are diverse,
(though not nearly diverse enough in their appearance)

cultures can be wise or destructive.

it does come down to consideration though,
and the logical realization that it is in everyone's
individual as well as shared interest.

when people are taught to deny both,
have it completely shoved out of and kept out of their minds that it even might be,
that the values (often superficial or completely false) of their culture,
are or know, better then anyone else's,

then of course.

when aggressiveness became something to romantacize and reward,
and being feared something to believe good or to be trusted,
right there is where the domenant culture went to hell in a hand basket.

I must say there are times I've been full of wonder and contentment and what happens?? I break an ankle! I'm happy in a new job, and at the end of 3 full months - never missing a single day and never being late - I got fired because the boss didn't like me. That's just 2 examples, but I can give more.

I wish what you were saying was true, but in my world, it just isn't. I personally have an effect on things to some degree only by my reaction to them, but there is still just so much I can do with myself with a Orange Idiot in charge...when it boils down to it. :/

Mel, I purposely waited in replying because I wanted to see some reasons, evidence to the contrary myself. I would LOVE to think humans, in general, were NOT just a bunch of scumbags, but I haven't seen a big reason to think otherwise. I agree totally that I should take a break from the news...
