There will probably always be some people who think nudity is wrong.

I don't know what the situation is in the US, but if it's anything like the UK (which is slightly less prudish, and with few religious fanatics), I find that, as Gromit says, a lot of young people take a much more casual attitude towards nudity than older generations. There's none of this, "Hey, man - I'm naked!" that we associate with the original hippies. They might talk gleefully about skinny dipping, and think it's cool and sexy, but that's just the enthusiasm of youth - a sign of health. Hopefully this generation will finally push aside for good all the Victorian prudery about the human body.

Now, if I can practice what I preach, and start getting my own clothes off...

Florida Young Naturists success proves to me that young adults can find their own path to naturism and it definitely is NOT boring.

I can contribute a family of six that are future nudists. We wear clothes when we have to and sometimes my toddlers dont even give that courtesy.

In my experience older people tend to live nudism more like a lifestyle and to form bigger groups.

I would agree that naturist clubs and perhaps resorts will struggle due to their aging patrons, as they just don't appeal to younger naturists.

As a forty something the idea doesn't appeal to me either, although I have been to a club a few times, once as a life model would you believe (and yes I did have to pose nude still). I then visited the same club a few times after, but being 28 at the time, I was mainly always the youngest by a good 10 years and felt a bit like an attraction at the zoo.

I think young people have a more relaxed attitude towards nudity now, with nude selfies etc and much easier access to nude images, so perhaps so see less reason for dedicated place to be a naturist?

Me thinks our generation would rather go out and have sex for kicks rather than... sitting around naked?

I have found that todays generation would are more likely to get a date and have sex or friends with benefits than live the nude life. My belief is the resorts are getting more and more pricey. And so many rules and restrictions. These are brought on by the fact they price out the riff raff so to speak and the elders in the resorts dont like change. Yes, there is now lifestyle resorts that are mkaing a killing, allowing swinging and crazy partying. Im not comdeming them. If your confy in that setting its fine. Resorts have to take on a different way of thinking in order to bring in youth.
Laws too are so crazy that people are afraid to be nude or raise their families as nudists in the fear of arrest and prosecution. The courts too must take individual cases and treat them with different mindset. Nudity can be healthy and happy. Not condemning. Kids are natural nudists. Lets follow their lead.

My take on this is not that nudist venues are dying because the young people don't go there anymore but, rather, because the people there have gotten old. They've gotten into a groove that makes them feel good, but they forget that youth is about trying something new, not repeating old habits. I imagine when they started, nudist clubs were a way of rebelling and living on the edge. But now, they're the orthodoxy. More often than not, I meet crabby people who are not much different from the crabby old lady down the street when I was a kid, except that she's nude and crabby.

I get it that a lot of people like nudist places because you can be who you are and not worry about people judging you. But, there are people who have gone for decades and appear to be quite at ease with themselves and feel no need to care for their appearance. They end up just being like your dad flopping on the couch in his underwear. When young people get together, it's more of an opportunity to expand their social networks. They end up dressing nicely or doing something that gets attention and interest. But, with the uniformity I find at nudist clubs, scratch that idea. The assumption is that people want to go there to relax. What, exactly, do so many people do all the time that they are in such need of relaxation?

Four years on and with the pandemic, I can see more clothing optional resorts struggling to continue. However, having a sauna or swim in 'thermen' in Germany, Belgium, Austria or the Netherlands seems to be something that will continue.

I think there are two other things at play here, firstly the fear of being photographed, and secondly that for women, thong and 'barely there' bikinis may bring comfort that is almost the same as nudity.

My daughters and I live 1.5 miles from Haulover Beach and go often. Even without me it is their beach of choice and they are 13,15,16, and 18.

A few years ago, a clothing industry association officer said that he was anxious about increasing nudity and the effect it would have on profits. More recently, a business owner was moving away from his mega-city because he didn't want his kids exposed to the increasing street nudity.

So maybe it is increasing in some areas, especially indoors. It might reduce your A/C bill a bit in the hot summers to come.

I read where more people are nude around the house with the pandemic - and enj0ying it, hopefullly they will go to a resort and be nude there and really enjoy all the benefits of being around other naked people

I do not have air conditioning, and I have lived in the desert of the Arizona for many years. I am naked indoors from April through September. When I can avoid the intense sun and prudish people, I am also naked outdoors. This lifestyle totally livable (and enjoyable) if you ventilate the inside of a well-insulated house at night, and use a low-power-usage ceiling fan inside during the day.

It kind of pisses me off that so many people come to Arizona and consume huge amounts of electricity on air conditioning and mechanical clothes driers as the planet's atmosphere continues to increase in average temperature due to greenhouse gas emissions. If people in the region started living in accordance with nature instead of contrary to nature, nudism would be increasing.

I don't think that nudists are endangered. The lack of younger nudists likely has to do with the following:
    1. Very few places that one can go nude in public. In most locations, nudist resorts are few and far between. Nude beaches are becoming fewer and fewer in number as municipalities crack down on them.
    2. Nudist resorts tend to be expensive, hence most younger people don't have the money to go frequently.
    3. Most younger adults who are married have kids. Nudism is usually something that most people do not include the kids in doing. Unless they can get a rare weekend away on their own without the kids, they wait until they are older and the kids are out on their own to enjoy nudism on a regular basis.
    4. Younger, single and unmarried people find it a challenge to go to nudist resorts. Most resorts do not allow single men. So men have to wait until they are married and older when the kids are on their own.

Bottom line is that I don't think that nudists are endangered. The interest is out there, it's just extremely challenging for a lot of people to enjoy nudism at a younger age.

I'm envious of your proximity to Haulover - I would be there most days if I lived that close.

The closest for us is Desert Sun Resort in Palm Springs, and that is a 1.5 hour drive. We used to have a nude beach in So Orange County, but the local politicians said no more nudity (damn conservatives).
