I'm going to India on Mar 1st for a few months. Has anyone ever stayed in an Ashram over there before an if so could they recommend one.
I reccomend the following: Sri Ramanasramam in Thirvannamalai, Tamil Nadu The Divine Life Society, Rishikesh Auroville, Pondicherry Tapovan Kuti, Uttar Kasi Chinmaya International Foundation, Veliyanad, Kerala Tapovan Chinmaya ashram, Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh (lots of other ashrams and buddhist monasteries near this one) There are hundreds more, these are ones that I have visited and loved. You need to call/email/write them in advance for permission to stay and leave a donation when you leave.
I would love to visit Gurumayi's Ashram in Ganeshpuri. I'm sure that it is beautiful and extremely powerful. It's located in Southern India... Have a wonderful time!
