In what ways? I see them every single day at a bus/tram station here. Mostly elderly ladies who just stand there holding the Watchtower while people just go past them xD They don't even speak to people or try to distribute the magazines...they just stand there. And on Saturday and Sunday mornings a couple of smart-looking men in suits come and they set up a board and/or a stand. I haven't noticed much interest in them though. I think their main office is somewhere in this neighbourhood. A few years ago some of them "spammed" the notice board on a Catholic Church here with their pamphlets and papers saying how the Catholic Church is wrong/false bla bla bla, which I found was totally disrespectful.
I've been so conditioned to just say "No" or "I don't have time right now" to JW's that I brushed off some guy who was attempting to hand me out flyers for a block party earlier this summer.
Here is a little info about the NWT Bible used exclusively by the JW's; http://biblicalworldviewacademy.org/major-problems-with-the-new-world-translation/ Finally, let me address additional problems with the New World Translation. When it comes to this translation we find it almost universally rejected by noted scholars in the field of Biblical translations. Dr. Ron Rhodes, who wrote “Reasoning from the Scriptures with the Jehovah Witnesses,” stated: “The New World translation is an incredibly biased translation. Dr. Robert Countess, who wrote a doctoral dissertation on the Greek text of the New World translation, concluded the translation ‘has been sharply unsuccessful in keeping doctrinal considerations from influencing the actual translation…It must be viewed as a radically biased piece of work. At some points it is actually dishonest. At others it is neither modern nor scholarly.’ British scholar H.H. Rowley asserted, ‘from the beginning to end this volume is a shining example of how the Bible should not be translated.’ Indeed, Rowley said, this translation is ‘an insult to the Word of God.’” Dr. Julius Manti, author of A Manual Grammar of the Greek New Testament, calls the New World translation “a shocking mistranslation.” Dr. Bruce M. Metzger, professor of New Testament at Princeton University, calls the New World translation “a frightful mistranslation,” “erroneous,” “pernicious,” and “reprehensible.” Dr. William Barclay concluded that “the deliberate distortion of truth by this sect is seen in their New Testament translation. It is abundantly clear that a sect which can translate the New Testament like that is intellectually dishonest.” The Watchtower Society must have been utterly embarrassed when the names of the translators of the New World translation were made known to the public. The reason for concern was the translation committee was completely unqualified for the task. Four of the five men in the committee had no Hebrew or Greek training whatsoever (they had only a high school education)[1]. The Fifth, Fred W. Franz, claimed to know Hebrew and Greek, but upon examination under oath in a court of law in Edinburg Scotland he failed a simple Hebrew test. In court Franz was asked if he knew Hebrew and he said yes. He said he had a command of various languages including Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Spanish, German, and French. When asked if he speaks Hebrew, he said no. He was then asked if he could translate the fourth verse of Genesis into Hebrew. His answer was NO! The fact was Franz, like the others on the committee, did not have the knowledge to translate Hebrew or Greek. The truth is Franz dropped out of the University of Cincinnati after his sophomore year and even while there, he had not studied anything related to theological issues So what was that you were saying about it being the most accurate?????
Ive a couple friends that are JW.. one them given me the Insight to the scriptures, two big books. Ive probably read them cover to cover more than any other religious material..
Those people are just sad really. They are worked like dogs by that cult. They usually target older people who live alone and want someone to talk to. Their beliefs are totally fucked up too. Just sad that someone would waste their life doing that stuff really.
:wall: Prove it..... negate the points brought up in the quote or accompanying link with some substantiated information. By substantiated I mean sources OUTSIDE OF THE JW CHURCH. Anyone can easily research this shit, I'm not making it up. The overwhelming consensus is that the NWT is without doubt the worst, most amateurish attempt at translation and does NOT convey what was recorded in the original documents. Personally I don't give two shits what you do or don't believe, just don't expect me to be so naive and gullible as to swallow whatever bullshit is offered and believe it just because you say.
"The Jehovah’s Witnesses sex scandal started its first day in court today. When they knocked on the door of the courthouse, nobody answered the door." – David Letterman
personally i don't believe there are any good translations of the christian bible and even if there were, i question seriously that many of its original authors back when they were writing it, (between two and three thousand years ago) old and new, had the slightest idea, or even cared, what they were talking about, except for the one good thing that i see as being the entire motivation for the exercise. which i see as trying to get people to want to not screw things up. which of course, over the centuries and millennia, have evolved instead, into excuses for doing just that.
Remember a couple of the writers John and Matthew Walk With Jesus during his ministry observing all the things he said and did and us writing it on paper or parchment or Papyrus whatever they're writing on back in time and it's been passed down since then. Jesus words. he set an example for All Humans 2 emulator show me preview of what to happen in the future since now Jesus has the keys to death
when people say it's a cult that is very laughable. these people serve Jehovah out of their own free will do you know it takes over 2 years to even become a Jehovah Witness with lots of studying of the Bible and that includes all Bibles not just the New World Translation. for many years before the translation they use the King James version to preach the good news the message is still there in either Bible
