Today ws my brothers birthday so we went to his favourite restaurant (also my favourite yay!) for lunch. It's a thai place and I got my all time favourite dish called haw mok mak phao oon. It's a chicken and shrimp red curry in a young coconut. They steam the whole thing in the coconut and then when you eat it you can scrape the steamed coconut meat off into the curry!

I had Chinese takeout yesterday (chicken with bamboo and mushrooms, and rice).
What I really like about this place is that their portions are so big...this one was exactly three meals for me.
SO much rice, I don't think anyone can eat so much rice in one sitting.

    Will order again.

I made my superb spaghetti sauce last night, so pretty soon I will be having it with linguini. I know the sauce is out of this world, as i sampled it a few times..My sauce alone...I could eat a bowel of just that. I have a little basil plant and rosemary plant growing in my house, and it is fun to pluck from the plants, too.

Beef and broccoli from The Bamboo House. Some of the best beef and broccoli I have had, in fact. Tastes fresh, isn't too salty, and is not drenched in sauce like it is from most places. Most of all it isn't greasy.

I'm trying out a variety of Quebec cheeses, there are so many here. Here are a couple I tried so far.

I really liked Le Ballot from Fromagerie Rang 9 in Plessisville, Quebec. It's a semi-firm, medium strength cheese, has a buttery feel with a woodsy flavour. It's lined with a layer of vegetable ash and rolled up log style so it looks neat too.

The Blackburn is a firm cheese from Fromagerie Blackburn in Jonquière, Quebec, aged for 3 years. It's a medium to strong cheese, with a wonderful yeasty flavour. It's firm but not crumbly at all, very smooth for a firm cheese, it melts in your mouth.

I really liked both of these but preferred Le Ballot a touch. I like the earthy taste and the look of it makes a nice presentation.
