I wanted to try a slow cooker salmon recipe, but I couldn't decide among the many that I found on the web. I just decided to throw a few things in that I thought would be ok with salmon. I put green beans and sweet potatoes on the bottom, a layer of salmon filets, then mushrooms and sliced red peppers on top. It tastes pretty good...well, at least I think it does.
I finally made the low sodium gravy for the Oxymoron Poutine. lol It turned out really good! The cheese gave it that bit of saltiness to keep it from being bland. I put together the recipe below for the gravy, then made baked fries (just a bit of oil on the potatoes) and cut up 30 grams of cheese and about 50 grams of mushrooms. I used 1/2 cup of the gravy. The gravy would probably come out better, darker, if you use arrowroot powder or cornstarch instead of flour. Beef Gravy from No-Salt Broth 1 Tbsp unsalted butter 1 Tbsp flour 1/4 tsp paprika 1/8 tsp onion powder 1/8 tsp garlic powder 1 cup no-salt beef broth herbs to taste pepper to taste Melt butter in your sauce pan, then add the flour, paprika, onion and garlic powders. Whisk the flour for about 1 minute. Slowly add the beef broth and stir often for about 5-7 minutes. Makes 2 servings. Here's the nutrition breakdown of the poutine. Pretty good on the sodium. Just for reference, most poutines have between 1100 mg and 2500 mg of sodium.
Hubby cooked! It's been literally more than several months? a few years? He cooked skinless beef sausage with bell pepper and onion; and made (nuked) baked potatoes. It was good and such a nice change!
Oops, I missed this message. Thanks for the recipe. That's what I've been seeing online. Yep, too much trouble. lol
One meatball sub. I'm making that later tonight. I got some vegan meatballs, 4 inch subs, tomato sauce, provolone, and mozzarella cheese. I'm actually hungry for once, so I'm excited to make it.
Arroz Salchicha Put about a tablespoon of Olive Oil in a boiler. Add fresh minced clove of garlic. Add sliced Salchichas, which are Vienna Sausages. I used Skinless Beef Sausage instead; about 1/2 packet of Sazon Goya (with the Annetto); about two tablespoons of Goya Sofrito - Heat it all up. Then add in your water and Rice, which is Arroz. I used 3 cups water and 1 11/2 cups of rice then cooked as you'd normally cook rice. You can add some Pinto Beans, or Pigeon Peas, with the first ingredients if you want. I didn't have any on hand. Then it would become Arroz con Gandules. Edit - I forgot to mention that you put Adobo seasoning salt on it before you eat it.
It's cold and raining today so I threw on a batch of chili. I'm trying a chili powder from a new spice shop. I had a quick taste as it was cooking, this is a spicy one!
I made some poutine. Used organic fries, instant veggie gravy, and cheddar jack from Whole Foods for $10. Had a Belching Beaver Horchata Stout with it. Had Leffe and Angel Food Cake with Strawberries and whipped cream for dessert. C/S, Rev J
I made what turned out to be a terrible stir fry. I tried it with rice noodles and do not like the flavour of them in the sauce I made. It's a sauce I've made before and love with rice, but it wasn't good this time wit he noodles. Bleh. I dutifully ate some anyways since I hate wasting food but yuck....
Last night, I made a huge meatloaf. I'll freeze some of it. We ate baked potatoes with it. Tonight, Hubby cooked a pound of bacon. We're going to have BLT's.
I made oatmeal for breakfast! I love oatmeal if it's done right. I topped it with apple slices, crushed peanuts, pumpkin seeds and brown sugar.
I made an open face meatloaf sandwich. Toast Sliced Cheese Honey Mustard Thin Sliced Meatloaf Fresh Tomato Heated it all up and devoured it. No time for a pic.
