I don't know about white guilt. I think, at least in my case and others , it's concern about people that started out as human machinery, were then freed, but were never really accepted, were mistreated by many who felt (and feel!) that that was their rightful place--that is being slaves and to continue to be on the bottom rung of the "ladder." That our family had slaves in Missouri doesn't make me feel guilty---hell I wasn't there. I saw the attitudes in my family against blacks as far back as the first grade. I knew then that there was
something off about them, since I had some black friends at school and they were just kids like me. I wasn't allowed to bring any home, of course, so they sure as hell ,didn't feel
guilty about the past. They were comfortable--CONTINUING their attitudes, that was obvious. Gee, I wonder if there are any other folks like that still around? Nah--this is 2016--couldn't be any of that still around. " and don't let that spick kiss you on the cheek--it'll leave a mark." That spick was my step father. Guilt? Sheeeit. Nary a lick.

AS far as the media goes, whatever stirs issues up gets "the treatment." I get that. The axiom in broadcasting is "if it bleeds, it leads."

So yeah--let's not mention that racist shit ever again. The blacks have it made and let's stop pretending that they are not on top a' the world.

I don't think that's a very good example of white privilege. This is simply an example of police brutality, and it happens regardless of your race. When I was in college, I was at a house party when the cops showed up due to a noise complaint. The host of the party (a white guy) answered the door and confronted the cops. The guy said he'd keep the noise down. The cops wanted to go inside and but the guy knew his rights and said no. The cops tried to intimidate their way inside, but he held his ground. Then the cop grabbed the guy, threw him to the ground and zapped him with a stun gun. Being white doesn't protect you from asshole cops like the media wants you to believe. The media only emphasizes race issues when it's an interracial conflict. They don't care to report black on black crime, or white on white police brutality.

You don't believe afro americans are more often subject to police brutality like in Meliai's example than whites?

That's something slightly different. What do you think? Are they or not? Just ignore the media for a second: this question is not about how it is portrayed.

I do think black people are profiled more, but as far as police brutality, I think a brutal cop is a cop with a chip on their shoulder, and they're going to take out their aggression on whoever they feel they can -- black or white.

The complaints about blacks are directed at the symptoms, not the underlying causes. It continues.

    This got way to political.

So a white guy wants to wear dreads, big deal! I'm sure there were a lot of combs back in the days of Europe when men were painting in caves. Hair gets dreaded, it happens without conditioner. Doesn't matter what your hair is like, it's going to get crusty.

    SOCIAL OUTRAGE!!! YEA!

This topic is similar to the days when only certain types of people had tattoos. Now anyone from what ever background / country they are from has tattoos. Can some whites have dreadlocks - of cause they can.

Lol, I read the first 2 pages. You are so quick to come to a convictive judgement, Rat. Or did you actually read more than the first sentence too?

Why is the author a moron? Why is the opinion so obviously racist? Why is it utter bullshit exactly? Because it shouldn't be a concern according to you, and because it is a concern to others their thoughts on it are bullshit by default? Yeah... I don't expect an answer anymore (would be great though).

At first, yes. But because it is about a certain hairstyle it's also about cultural identity and shit (which is how it gets easily connected to ethnicity and then race :p). I don't mean to say cultural identities are shit, but if an african american/european/whatever would take something from my culture and show it off in public because he/she fancies it for some reason I don't see any issue with it. Certainly not some kind of cultural theft or in a way offensive because it's only supposed to be worn by 'my people'.
