When Obama became president it sent Republicans into such a rage it's still being felt today. Every time conservatives lose another Supreme Court case that has to do with women's rights or equal rights for minorities and the LGBT community Republicans try their best to negate federal laws at the state level.

So let me get this straight; gays are treated poorly by religious folk in the south... The solution is to ship in more religious folk to the north?

Part of the running joke is that the OP doesn't see that.

I rarely ever see a trans person. I think this is a mostly made-up crisis.

In population, NC is one of the ten largest states in the US, with three metro areas having populations of more than a million each. The extreme east and west are tourist areas.

No, I'm confidant she isn't that clueless.
what part of the fact of laws being passed that sanction and promote discrimination is the central issue did you miss?
her personal business losses or whatever were merely provided for illustration of how it can effect anyone regardless of sexual preference.

you honestly are not that dense and clueless are you?

AGAIN it matters not one fucking bit if the laws are aimed at gays, blacks, whites, browns, hetero's or whatever the fuck, or where they are passed, it is the legal sanctioning of discrimination and that should piss everyone off.

    Don't be so sure.

Laws such as this are not able to be uncoupled from their religious, (and unsurprisingly) hateful antecedents.

Of course the law is bullshit, however, to hear someone whine that they're suddenly missing out on potential income due to (x) discriminatory practice is analogous to saying "Oh, there aren't any Jews around, who's going to be my talent agent?" during the second world war.

    Wah, wah, wah.

I dunno about the rest of you but if I ever saw a tavern, store, restaurant, bakery or whatever with a sign that says "we don't serve queers or foreigners (or whatever)," I wouldn't be spending any money there even if they welcomed my kind.

Meh, theres always a way around a law. Its not the explicit stuff you have to worry about, more the implicit stuff.

Nowadays, especially in the workplace, that implicit stuff can favour minorities.

I know you all arent talking about the workplace, but theres always a way around any law. And often whatever they are trying to legislate with have the exact opposite effect in the long term.

Uhmmm, guess you didn't understand the idea of her using how it is effecting her personally regardless of her political, religious or sexual viewpoints or preferences as illustrative.

Kiprat just sounds like he has a problem with Karen, what's up with your attitude and lame assumptions concerning her motives which you have no way of knowing?

I'm aware of the subject of the thread. I'm choosing to critique the argument. This is a political forum, after all.

As for criticizing her motives; I haven't. I'm not interested in how the conclusion was reached, I'm interested in talking about alternative methods of dealing with this situation, as I agree on the most important point, it's despicable (debate 101: focus on the argument, not the person).

For your pleasure, I'll derail my argument and go off topic in attempt to explain my feelings toward the OP (as per your request). The OP seems like a great person and for some odd reason reminds me of my mother (similar writing styles, very good intentions). There, I'm done praising. Now we can go about our days and stay on subject.

EDIT: I generally like your posts. I don't know where this came from.

1)Its clear you're just an extremist. So the ancestors of some NC rural folks believed in slavery. I wonder what YOUR ancestors believed in? Because of this, you think they forfeit their rights to bring up their children in a manner free from extremist brainwashing that self mutilation etc are "cool".

By your reasoning you're allowed to "bully" them into anything YOU want.
    Talk about bigotry...!

2)No you're just bothered about money and exercing YOUR prejudidices over others. And its not a Rep Party issue. Many Democrats are sickened by sexual extremism and militancy.

3)Well don't go. But stop claiming you can bully others out of their democratic and personal rights. And that you can force THEIR children to be clones of you.

    Either that, or respect democracy.

4)Calling a group of people "shit" again shows you are an extremist. And your stance is anything BUT "enlightened, educated, tolerant".

    ____________________
You should look at the specifics, the facts, the principles of the case rather than parroting faux Left mantras like "discrimination" etc.

Why should normal, moderate families who are Christian, or Athiest or Humanist have their healthy children subjected to a bizarre brainwashing of self mutiliation. And a tiny proportion of the popln is homosexual, they should NOT be duped that "everyone" or "most people" are homosexual (as one thread here bizarrely claimed!)

People should be allowed to discuss the causes of homo/transsexualism. These include the pollutants in food, water, plastics etc. And the merciless promotion of these lifestyles by sections of the media. And ofcourse childhood events such as bullying.

    ___________
This social justice nonsense ("toilets for trannies" I mean FFS - do you realise how this is demeaning America in the World!) is nothing but a ploy to cause a smokescreen against the REAL issues in politics.Povery, health, job losses, globalisation, national security, crime, America's abhorrent foreign policy etc etc). But both gangs - Clinton AND the Rep Party all agree on the key things - illustrating the utter sham of the political system. By acting like this, causing most people to be appalled by the Dem Party's leadership, +you are causing much harm to the cause of ordinary, normal Americans. You are doing just what the Establishment WANTS to happen.

Yes I have. One of my best friends lives there. Only difference is, these people say what New York Democrats privately think.

I'll tell you wants "un-American". Denying the rights of normal people to protect their kids from extremism in a normal way.
Homo/transsexuals have as many rights as anyone. But unfortunately they have MORE "rights" than some. And want even more again. But sadly they aren't so keen on the responsibilities attached.

And who's stopping homosexuals being homosexual? NO ONE!! Because sexual acts should be commited in PRIVATE! So even if it WAS illegal - WE WOULDN'T KNOW A CRIME WAS COMMITED!!

How on Earth can the promotion of self mutiliation to children be civilised? Do you know how many people suffering from "transgender" disorder kill themsleves, because they were never given mental treatment. Why on Earth should this illness be promoted instead of treated? Is that "American values". Please.

What do you want next? The right for perverts to commit bestiliality infront of people's kids? Masturbation or BDSM outside schools?
A fundamental American value is that sexual matters are kept private and away from children. ALL sexual matters apart from the very basics of reproduction at the right age. Allowing families to bring up their children free from extremists promoting their views. And that is fully reflected in the stance of the NC community.
    __________
As for the rest of the nonsense here, I won't bother replying. I think the truth speaks for itself.

Wow, just wow. (She says as she chews gently on her good ole Levi Garrett & then hocks backy juice in her spittoon with a resounding "Ting", JOKE) I'm from rural NC & thoroughly enjoyed your discussion. I am just learning how to navigate this site & stumbled across this thread & I am thoroughly impressed that a topic such as this was discussed with such decorum. I assure you there will never be a transgender restroom in my little town. Good news? We don't care. Men's or ladies ya got to go? Then flipping go! We have our rednecks, yup. And some are the scum of the earth. But some are the kindest, never meet a stranger, give you the shirt off your back, good ole boys you will ever meet. I get your point. It is a little backwards. To each their own. I have seen revenue lost because our little town couldn't handle a dance club. A bar. Tattoo parlor. And it simply never will. Would be like going to NYC & it not being that big a deal. Just cultural differences. We can talk nicely about it & try to change it. We can pray, meditate or cast a spell on it. It all boils down to acceptance. Acceptance of both points of view. If people will just stop & think we have had "transgender" rest rooms for a very long time. They are just called "unisex" & we take turns???

No, I don't know anything about the op.

I just find her comments extremely disturbing. She seems to be consumed in hatred against rural N Carolinians. For instance the way she claims she has a "right" to bully people because apparently their ancestors believed in slavery.

To think my own politics are/were traditional Democrat type, I think its shows how the whole political system is bankrupt. Her politics are as much like mine as Genghis Khan, Pol Pot and Osama Bin laden. The Dem Party has been hijacked by extremism to allow the Establishment to gain an even greater control over the general population.

I get where Karen is coming from. I live in rural Kentucky and the people are...um...I'll be charitable and just say they're a little slow. In my own little hometown people were once bought and sold in front of the courthouse. Then later on "whites only" signs popped up. The confederate flag is a common sight, as people seem fond of celebrating their "heritage". (My grandmother was German but she never displayed a Nazi flag in celebration of her heritage. Wonder why?) I don't know of any discriminatory business practices based on sexual orientation but it wouldn't be shocking. This is all just another page in the history of the south, it won't last.

Hi could i ask you a couple of questions you see I’m unsure what you want to protect your children from, I mean what ‘brainwashing’ do you think is happening, have you examples?

My child has been around gay people all her life, her aunt is gay and happily married to her partner our friends next door are a happily married gay couple, she has often been babysat by gay people one of her teachers is openly gay. Is being openly gay around a child ‘brainwashing’ or is it something else?

I mean if someone goes into a café for example it’s unlikely their sexual orientation could be immediately ascertained but what if a gay couple are holding hands is that ‘brainwashing’ and grounds for them to be expelled if the owner wants to? What if they kiss is that crossing the line into ‘brainwashing’ and if so why and would a non-gay couple kissing be ‘brainwashing’?

So can you please explain what you feel constitutes ‘gay brainwashing’?

Also what are ‘Judeo Christian principles’? I mean given the wide variations in people supposedly Christian beliefs it seems to me there isn’t any one set of principles. For example there are openly gay church goers and those Christians that believe gays should be punished with imprisonment.

Illustrations and examples can be used.

About that client loss, the thing that really bothers me is the reason for it. If the other company had just said that they found somebody else that they thought would do a better job, I could live with that. That's just business. It happens now and then. I can take it. I don't whine about the ordinary ups and downs of business.

I'm not the primary rep for that account. He gets paid mostly on commission, and this was his largest account. It will be a financial hardship for him and his family for a while, until he finds more clients. I know this is the kind of job he signed up for, but it's still tough to see when it plays out like this.

In general, I'm not in favor of any kind of group punishment. I've hated it since I was a kid and teachers used it in school.

Now there seems to be an absolute feeding frenzy in the business world for everyone to distance themselves from NC. PayPal has cancelled a major office expansion in Charlotte. Atlanta has told employees that they can't travel to NC for business meetings or conferences. That will mostly hurt the city of Asheville, which is one of our most liberal cities. Nobody seems to care that 48% of us voted Democratic in the last election. We weren't 51%, so we don't matter at all.

I'll bet it's worse in Mississippi. I'd hate to be a liberal in that state right now.

No, let's make it a REQUIREMENT!

Keep ranting, Kip. You're making a great case against your own cause. This is the kind of ultraconservative foaming at the mouth that terrifies so many people.

Did you know that those are not currently allowed in state-owned buildings? I didn't know that until recently. I don't think that rule applies to federal buildings.

Businesses are moving more and more to unisex bathrooms because it eliminates 99% of the controversy. Any private business in NC can do that.

When I go in a public women's room someplace like Charlotte, I don't even make eye contact with other people in there, and I don't think about who's in the next stall. Why should I care, as long as they aren't bothering me? I don't need to know anything about them.

This reminds me of 5 or so years ago with the public's negative reaction when Arizona passed stricter laws on illegal immigration that some considered racist. Even the Obama administration threatened lawsuits. Lots of people boycotted travel and business in Arizona. But eventually it was all forgotten about in due time, and it all went back to normal. My guess is this could be a temporary loss of revenue for NC, but it will all go back to normal like it did in AZ.
