What type of shoes do you wear if you are not barefoot

Reminds me of the WWII Memorial in Washington. Have you been there?

 

I walked around it a bit the last time I was there but don't recall any anchors.

 

It may be true that wooden sandals can make more noise than other shoes. It depends on the way you walk. I love the sound it makes when the sandals are clapping against the soles of my feet.

 

I just got some new cheap flip flops that are actually comfortable so in case I need those I have comfort for summer and when the Mercury drops I have slip on vans

My "barefoot shoes"

 

How do you make those work, rts? I tried to do something similar with a pair of plimsolls when I was young, but could never get them to stay on. In the end I gave up for that reason, also because being "caught" wearing those would be (at the time) even more embarrassing than being openly barefoot. They also somehow watered down the whole "don't give a shit" barefoot experience, like an admission to myself that barefooting was wrong. In the end they disappeared from my room. I guess my mum must've thrown them out, though she never said anything

 

Socks perform quite an important function when you're out walking in shoes or boots, helping to protect your foot from the abrasive effects of toe-box friction. Ideally you should wear two thin pairs (the layers rub against each other and the toe-box), or you can get those double layered walking socks that do the job well. I do a lot of brisk, purposeful walking over rough-ish terrain, which obviously I won't do without any protection at all, and while I mainly do it in zero-drop barefoot shoes, I always wear a couple of pairs of socks, or socks and a pair of those shoe-liner things. Shoes and socks okay; no shoes or socks okay; but no socks with shoes...hmmm.

 

I wear flip flops during summer when not barefoot.

 

This is the time of year when Old Navy has all its basic flip-flops on sale for $2! Stock up!

 

How basic are they though, ie how thick are they? I keep wearing (when I must) a knackered old pair that were pretty thin to start with , but they have now worn down to ultra thin and with a big hole in each. I love 'em. The other day I put on a brand new unworn pair with thicker soles as I was going out with my family and felt I should look semi-respectable. They very soon got on my nerves and had to come off. They felt almost as restricting and annoying as shoes. Good that you have a source of cheapies though.

 

Half inch. I don't feel big gravel much until they wear down to about half thickness, and then they're still fine for the city. I'll wear them to work even after they get some holes. Four pairs for $8 will last me a couple of years.

It can be funny meeting people on mountain hiking trails in the summer; lots of middle aged yuppies from the cities, always wearing the very best, newest, and most expensive hiking shoes; watching them stare at me. A few will ask, "Aren't you worried about twisting an ankle?" My standard answer, "It could happen, but it would be my first time ever." I'm just very deliberate on rough ground. I did break a toe once, but that was in my own bedroom, on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night! Snakes are a bigger risk, but I've yet to spot one any less than six feet away.

I have two other pairs of better quality hiking sandals for surfaces that are expected to be more rocky and steep than average. If you have to wade across a river with a decent current, flip-flops won't even stay on.

 

Dress shoes.

 

It largely depends upon the occasion, but I'll alternate between pairs formal shoes, Havaianas, Nike FlyKnit Free Rn and Vibram Fivefingers that I own.

 

If it's at least decently warm I'm wearing sandals, once it turns colder it's my ugg moccasins, no socks of course

 

I wear sandals in public places, as it's illegal here to go in any store barefoot. Same when on the bicycle. If my ankles or knees are giving me problems I have a pair of good work boots I'll wear for a while. This upcoming year I'm going to try a type of moccasin, or something similar with thin soles so I can feel the ground under my feet.

 

The only shoes that I wear are a pair of smart loafers. Equally suitable for a business meeting as wearing around town. I must be the most lazy person on the planet when it comes to clothing. LOL..

 

Certainly lazier than me, I put a lot of thought into my outfits.

 

When I'm not barefoot, I wear wooden sandals, wooden clogs, Birkenstock sandals or flip flops.
