Not Responding

With my Dell frequently it goes into a state of Not Responding and the screen goes lighter and gets stuck for a while. What can I do to fix it? Would going back to factory settings help?
I am not buying another Dell ever again. HP is much better.

I fixed it with an AVG tune up,checked registry files Junk files and something else.
