I made a Greek salad because I am on a diet. I can not wait for the diet to be over so I can eat a steak with fries.

I meant to pop in on VDay because I cooked a really good meal.. But I forgot so I'll make a retro post today. On Valentines day I cooked a steak marinated in oil, vinegar, lemon juice. Worcestershire sauce, and a sprinkle of oregano and hot Hungarian paprika. . We didn't feel like grilling because it was freezing so I pan seared it then popped it in the oven for a few minutes and cooked it medium rare. For sides I made garlic mashed potato, green beans, and heated up a french baguette.

I usually use some balsamic on them and let them sit for a bit. Load them with black cracked pepper, basil and cheese and broil them. I line the baking sheet with foil so that it is easy to clean up. :)

I have chicken curry going in the tajine. I'll have it over a wild rice blend. It smells great, can't wait until it's ready.

I was starving this morning so I slapped together a quick breakfast. Scrambled eggs, I sautéed a boiled potato I had left over in a bit of oil, and berries. I'm finding paprika helps flavour eggs well without salt.

I made a big pot of Chili Con Carne.

I used some ground beef and some ground pork (hubby's request), pinto beans, stewed tomatoes, onions and garlic. I do wish I'd had some bell pepper too. I seasoned it with chili powder, curry powder, and cayenne pepper.

I was just thinking of making chili soon. I've never put curry powder in mine, I'll have to try that one day. I have this new Mayan chili powder I want to try. It has cinnamon and cocoa powder in it as well as the traditional chili spices. I've had Mayan cocoa which I like, the chillies give it a nice flavour and some heat. It should be interesting in a chili.

Work is paying for my food...I don't cook anything. I might heat up in the nuke box just enough so my food isn't cold but it's all eating out and ready made for me during the week.

I'm still a bit out of it, I don't know what I was doing with my eggs this morning! They turned out somewhere between scrambled and an omelette (fresh basil and mushroom). Ha, they look like monkey bread.

I made chicken heart yakitori to start and then pork and veg pot stickers for dinner tonight! My boyfriend brought me home a bamboo steamer basket as a surprise yeserday so i really wanted to use it. I steamed the pot stickers in them after i folded them and then lightly fried them in sesame oil at the end. Here's a pic of some pot stickers but I kind of forgot to take it until most of them were gone already.

    Those potstickers look really good!

I made a vegetarian chili today with the Mayan chili powder. I really like the spice, but I'm still having trouble with beans without salt. Saltless beans = paper.

I'll definitely be trying the Mayan spice with a meat chili.

Breakfast was steelcut oatmeal. For lunch I heated up the leftover chili and I was pleasantly surprised. I know chilis and stews are better the second day after the flavours meld together, but the beans in the chili were delicious today. They soaked up all the flavour. No more paper!

For dinner I made a Moroccan Chicken Tagine. I gathered the whole spices I had and ground them up with my mortar and pestle. They smelled great. Let's see, I used cumin, cardamom, all spice, cloves, coriander, star anise, turmeric and cayenne. I added a few saffron strands and a couple of Ceylon cinnamon sticks to the tajine, as well as carrots, red onion, garlic cloves and fresh ginger. I put in dried figs and dried mango and a couple of sections of orange rind. And sprinkled chopped pecans over it before serving. It smelled so-o-oo heavenly cooking. I served it with couscous. OMG was it good. All the flavours. The meat was tender and the chewy figs and sweet mango went so well with the savoury meat and carrots.

    Still eating my chili.

I mixed in the rice gandules last night.

Tonight, it's got lots of shredded, sharp cheddar cheese on top.

I made more pot stickers tonight since I had tons of filling and wrappers left over. I am so happy with them! I have tons of wonton wrappers left still since the packages were on sale if you bought 3 of them. I might try making actual wontons with the rest of them for a soup.
