Your vote is your vote. I have voted opposite of my Dad for decades. You should vote as you decide, not follow someone else. If you are old enough to vote, you are old enough to make your own decisions.
I have no problem paying taxes for someone who wants an education, however, I do have a problem with someone who uses colleges as an avenue to make it in the sports world. I voted for Obama twice, so I have a question for the sanders supporters. Have you been unhappy with Obama? It seems many of you see that whoever is elected president is a panacea. Sorry, it doesn't work that way.
Well, Flag, no program will be used 100% as intended. I choose not to refuse to help thousands just because one or two fuck about. And providing free college for everyone isn't just about the person going to college, it's about the entire country. Having a better educated populace means better production and abilities al around, not to mention less crime... and that's just scratching the surface. Plus, if you don't deal in stocks at all, then you wouldn't be paying for it anyway. As for Obama, I voted for him twice as well. I'm also a solid Bernie supporter. But no, I don't believe either of them are spotless and perfect in every way that I would want them to be. There are things Obama has done that I haven't been happy about. In my opinion, you don't vote for someone you think will get absolutely every single thing right according to your personal beliefs. You vote for the person you think will do the best job of holding the country together and bringing it forward... and President Obama has done that in the face of incredible obstruction. When considering all candidates on either side, Bernie Sanders stands out much further than anyone else as the one I believe is both best for the job and the most trustworthy. And I don't have to guess if I can trust him, I can just look at his record from the past few decades and see that he doesn't pander or switch positions at the drop of a press release. I'm sure there are things I won't agree with Bernie on, but honestly... nothing is standing out as going against my beliefs, so far.
I saw Bernie down the street from my house this afternoon/evening. He was two houses away from my house.
SO, moveon.org endorsed bernie today AND in even more exiting news bernie has surged ahead in the quininepac (sp?) poll in Iowa today, leading at 49% to Hilary's 44%. This is outside of the margin of error of 4%. I AM SO EXCITED! Unelectable my ass
Hillary is totally freaking out now. But all she has is "Bernie is weak on guns." And anyone who's paying attention knows she's reaching further than what the facts bear out.
What does Sanders have that Kucinich lacked in previous primaries? Their policies are pretty identical. Yet one is doing better than the other could've ever dreamed.
Maybe it's the fiery passion? Maybe it's timing? Personally, I think it was his delivery which seems more aligned with selling reverse mortgages at 3am. And it depends on which presidential run you're referring to. Like, for 2008 he was up against Hillary and Obama, two powerhouses against his "small" presence. Not only is he physically small, but he comes across as a quiet man. Of course, he also had chosen Ron Paul as his running mate and that could've hurt him as well. But looking at his ideas and what he believes in, you have an excellent point. I had no idea Kucinich was so progressive!
Could be. I hate to say it, but I think it did also have something to do with his physical stature and how he spoke. He didn't light fires. But I think you're right that it also has to do with where society is as a whole. Kind of a perfect storm of all kinds of shit went down in the world and people are like... ENOUGH. IS ENOUGH. Thus, Bernie.
After thinking about this, I have decided to change my vote. I am voting for sanders. I still don't think he can beat Clinton, but if he does that's ok. Whoever the the nominee is, it's important that the. y win the GE. We also need to get rid of the repubs controlling congress.
A term in the House of Representatives is two years long, while a term in the Senate is six years long, so you can sort of figure out how long people will be where they are with a little bit of research. So each state has senators and house reps. Certain states are more than likely always going to have republicans in the house and senate, I think... Not so sure footed about my political science. Lol.
Looks like HRC was on the board of directors of Walmart for a number of years. I'm sure she was there to look out for workers interests.
I think timing has a lot to do with it. In 2004 not many knew him. In 2008 the republicans were so unpopular because of Bush and Cheney, and voters probably thought any democrat would rescue the country and fix everything. Especially the well known politics-as-usual types candidates like Hillary, Obama. Kucinich and Paul were deliberately excluded from attending certain debates as well. But now it seems that people are getting sick and tired of seeing the same politicians over and over again, especially Hillary. Which gives Sanders a good opportunity to rise up. I'm not sure if appearance has much to do with Kucinich not succeeding. Keep in mind that Sanders is a small old white guy who just recently started combing his hair since voters don't want to elect a mad scientist. I think if Kucinich ran this time, he would be a serious contender and would pose lots of competition for Hillary and Sanders I remember when Kucinich got hired to be an analyst and commentator on Fox News and how so many liberals got mad and called him a traitor. I didn't get why they were upset about it because it seems to me that having a far left voice on a right wing neocon network is a liberal victory.
I like Hillary- -she has tons of experience in in all aspects of gov,t. The GOP really hates her and might bang her out, but Bernie is a good substitute,,,a principled man who wiill carry the democratic message (with a touch of soliciaisim)-- either way ,,im confident
Now entering panic mode, Hillary has resorted to distorting Bernie's positions and using scare tactics to confuse potential supporters. The first campaign speech of the year given by Chelsea really crossed the line. She went so far that not even her mother's staff could stand behind all of it. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2016/jan/14/chelsea-clinton/chelsea-clinton-mischaracterizes-bernie-sanders-he/ This is making my final voting decision very easy. Next debate: tomorrow night, 9 Eastern time.
I saw you were the last person to post in this thread Karen so I came in here specifically to ask if your vote has been swayed towards Bernie yet. Kinda weird you answered the question in your post before I asked it ! I have never really liked Hillary but her republican-lite, corporate shill tendencies are really showing this primary season.
Yeah, I really wanted to like her because she's the only liberal (or semi-liberal) in the public eye who seems to have a reasonable chance to become the first female President, but I know that alone is not a good enough reason to give her a vote. She has that devious bitch side that I see so often in the business world. I usually end up being frienemies with them because open opposition is so dangerous. They can never be trusted.
I have to admit, it makes me kind of wonder what would happen to my social security, medicare, and for those in California Medi-Cal. Does Sanders' team know about this? Where is my money going to go if he takes over? Makes me wonder if there isn't something to fear about Sanders' plan for the Economy. It's obvious to me that something needs to be done and I like his strategy, but I am skeptical. It reminds me alot of this guy http://www.rdwolff.com/, who has been saying the same thing as Sanders.
