Fake it till you make it, that's the only way to get by in this fucked up world we live in where actual merit holds little value, unless you happen to be one of the lucky "perfect" few.

What I'm really referring to in the above is not really about faking things though, rather the effects of social influence on human behavior, altering their perception of yourself.

 

Maybe it's needed for people to make a big social change

 

What is wrong with just being yourself no matter who that is?

The people who like you and trust you will really like you and trust you then, and the ones who don't....c'est la vie...not everyone meshes.....and i never heard of anyone ever being perfect.

 

But in today's society, they expect you to be perfect, and everyone is faking it and pretending to be perfect. trying to make themselves look better than everyone else. I'm not fake, nothing wrong with being yourself, that's what I do. But there is such a thing as persuasion, and social skills seem to be of more value than actual merit or ability/skill in the relevant field ... that is the best interviewer wins, even though he might not actually be very skilled, and only really skilled at interviewing. So that's what we're up against and is what i'm talking about here.

society ... i don't think people ought to have to "sell themselves" ... their merits should speak for themselves. People aren't commodities to be bought and sold. I agree with you, but sadly this is the way society is, you have to sell yourself :/

 

I know what you mean.....but I turn it around, they will have to sell themselves to me then....if that is "THEY's" rule.....

Actually in reality that's all they are according to how the world works.

In disaster scenarios for rescue there's always a cost analysis upon the risk of saving a person, or calling their loss of life too risky to save or not cost effective.


In idealistic land, where the dreams we hope of achieving are (aka: a more perfect union, perfect parents, children, friends, no poor or super rich, or disease)

Not to mention given you have a big enough gene pool, loss of life can be fixed by the engine called sexual reproduction.

Life is cheap to make and it's also cheap to lose, yet necessary.

That is a commodity. Dark concept since we're talking life and death, but it's true.

 

Don't let society dictate that to you.
Be your own person and make your own world.
Know who is there for you and who isn't.

 

I've often heard the rumor that it's possible for an asshole to have teeth, and now I know for sure.

 

You could argue that we needed Johnson and Nixon to set in motion the big social change that occurred in the 60s. But Trump would make a worse president than those two combined. George W. Bush's presidency wasn't that long ago, remember how fucked up things got, then realize that under Trump things would get much worse.

Fuck all these rich asshole conservatives who don't think their piece of the pie is already too big, government should be representing the 99%, and Trump would implement policies that make "trickle down" look like a Godsend for the poor. Of course if you're young and poor you can always enlist in the military and fight in any of the wars he'll surely get us into.

Am I getting carried away? Perhaps. In fact it occurs to me that I'm starting to sound like Trump when he attacks one of his presidential rivals. But I'm not above stooping to his level. ANYBODY BUTTRUMP!!!

I didn't really got that remark of him about sex being the thing he and his daughter have in common (or what was it?), but I didn't really thought the Daily show made a hilarious joke out of it. Do you really think that was good comedy?

Havent been around in awhile ,hope you all didn't have me dead and buried. Still on the Jersey shore - looking to get out of here soon and move to a warmer climate, but it seems that I always wind up in Connecticut

I happened to see this topic and have to throe in my 2cents - not that trump needs 2cents or 2 million but........here goes

I cant believe so many people are behind this egomaniac ,narcissistic racist. Its scary to me and hopefully the majority , that this guy actually has a chance to be in charge of the country. Of course we all know that anything he might want to implement has to go thru the channels of Congress (the House ,,the senate..etc - -thank God for that. .
He has said so many stupid things over the last few months I cant and don't want to start naming them here. ...But wanting to intern all Muslims living in the US "like Roosevelt interned the Japanese" during WW2 is just insane - - He said that the highly popular FDR did the right thing.".it was war time,,,we had to do something"- - Well Don ,,that was over 55 years ago and not all things we learn from history are good and need to be repeated. Jeeezeez...this is only one of his crazy ideas.. You all know the comments against non-whites,, walls ,,women, and the derogatory language that he uses - can you imagine having this guy speaking to the heads of different country's - or speaking to the Pope.as Obama did?? IMO he should stick to the real-estate business.. His bombastic way of speaking with bigotry and ignorance is riling up the masses that reminds me of a cult leader or wacky dictator - - You folks don't have to agree with me ,but is this the guy you really want in charge of "the button?"- - I don't know if Bernie or Hillary are the way to go. But for Gods sake they speak with compassion ,intelligence, and with respect for all people of all walks of life. This is America. We have certain moral respsonsibilies if we want to continue to be looked at as a leader throughout the world community -
