Well after watching the first four now I take back my original statement that there was too many puns and comedic one liners in the number 7. After watching them 1-6 I'll be interested to see how #7 really fits in with the producing etc.
sooooo ... women who are too old to titillate your sacral should climb into a rectangular hole in the ground and start pulling the dirt in on top of themselves? but old fart Harrion Ford ... he's a man so of course he remains laudable, despite all those wrinkles, his gray hair and withering muscles. that's some shallow, ageist, misogynistic crap you got going on there, irminsul. PS. omgoddess! i thought you were some testosterone ridden teenage male with mommy issues but you're a woman! good luck in your aging process, kiddo. if you don't change your view of mature femininity you going need all the luck you can get. .
dormouse, you will be pleased to know that I liked Carrie Fisher better in this movie than the first time I saw her in star wars this time. the first time she put me to sleep...
Is it really a fair argument though ? Theres a reason Ford has been one of the biggest A list actors of the last couple decades. No use comparing Ford to Fischer. Hamil hasnt really gotten anything outside star wars. You wont hear anyone blaming his gender for the publics lack of interest in him. All the big blockbusters are action movies in some way, there arent as many roles for old grannies in those kind of plots, no real surprise But outside that, every other type of movie, rom coms, boring retrospects of the human condition the critics always love so much, biopics, art films There arent as many roles for 55+ women as there is for 55+ men? I just dont see it, plenty of roles for older women, just that they are picked up by the women that are good actors. Its usually the ones that relied mostly on their looks when they were younger that complain about not being able to get work later. Its a lucky coincidence being han solo was one of Fords first big breaks, and that 38 years later he was still an A lister and could reprise the role. A lot of this films charm. Imagine if it had been someone who was a big star early, but then everyone got sick of, trying to rehash this role, say John Cusack or Nicholas Cage...would have just come off looking tired and worn
Anyhoo, it just past Titanics earnings, is now the 2nd biggest movie of all time Its only got to chase down Avatar now, which for some reason had a huge response outside US. 750 million in the US, 2 Billion internationally. TFA will pass what Avatar took in total in the US this week. Still another 1.2 billion needed from the rest of the world though
Guess I'm the only guy in the world that hasn't seen any of them except the very first. More of an art house type, I suppose. Shit blowing up just doesn't get it for me. NOW GET ME!!
And I never said old people have no worth, Shale. I simply said she looked old and worn because she did look old and worn and to me she added nothing to the movie than pittiful drama just so the original fan base, the old ones ... could have a warm feeling in their hearts that there were still original actors in the new movie.
Probably my only criticism of the movie is half the time Leia is dressed like shes on the farm, about to milk some cows, seriously what is it with gettup as General? Even at the end when shes dressed in what I assume is more regal attire, looks like the Kmart version of regal. Shes supposed to be royal in some way, I forget what, why not jazz that up That and Phazma silver suit did make her kind of look like a big dildo
OH yeah, definitely outgrew that Say what you will about Jabba the Hut, but he sure knew how to give a style impaired rich girl a very needed makeover.
I don't know what the big deal is about her looking older. She is older. I thought she looked perfectly fine. As far as that gold bikini outfit.....she hated it and regrets ever wearing it. She had some advice for the actress who plays Rey that was basically "Don't let them use you the way I let them use me".
the double standard for the aging of men vs women is so overt it's hard to believe anyone would fail to notice. if the critique of Carrie Fisher was based on her acting skills i'd have said nothing since opinions are what they are but the bashing of Carrie Fisher as been about her physical appearance, her age, how worn out she looks. you don't see those kinds of ageist attacks launched at male actors. and few are the actors and actresses who haven't built their careers on their sex appeal. the difference being that, according to the norms of our male dominated society, men retain sex appeal far longer than women do. you don't see wrinkle cremes and anti-aging beauty products being marketed to men. do ya? women must fear the passage of time and do everything they can to "reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles" in order to maintain their worth in society for as long as they can. the beauty industry is built on the insecurity of women. the more insecure women are w/ their looks the more beauty products are sold. unless science comes up w/ an affordable "fountain of youth" pill in the next 20 yrs or so the smug silly little twits who believe they'll be exempt from the anti-woman ageism in our society will be in for a big surprise when they find themselves invisible, even held in disdain, when time has etched life experience into their once pretty young faces. smart young women will start now to change the cruel societal norms that will devalue them in their future. smart young women can start to change that cruel norm by stopping to bash their elder sisters for being older than they are.
I think these kinds of attacks come out of pettiness and meanness...nothing more.....lack of respect for all life, etc...... I did not realize that Carrie should be selling sex in this new Star Wars movie, anyway. To me, she was royal...and i don't care if she was wearing a burlap sack. What people wear has nothing to do with anything....It is how they carry themselves.....
the target and nature of the petty attacks is meaningful, imo. society won't change it's cruel and petty norms unless we do the changing.
How do you propose we do that? I am not a sexist, racist or ageist....I respect ALL life on this planet....what more should i change?
