I guess that I should add that I don't mow any of the areas where there is a steep bank when I'm barefoot. Our smooth bottomed feet just don't give enough traction & it would be too easy to slip!

I do mow my yard barefoot and others before and had no promblem. I love barefooting, plus I love how my feet get dirty and stained green.

I haven't had to mow in years, but I wouldn't mow barefoot. The foot guard at the back of the mower that glides along the grass is designed to collide with the toe section of a shoe before it would slide under the guard and into the path of the spinning blade. A thinker flip flop might work, but a closed shoe is still better even if it's not steel toed. A bare foot would easily slide under the foot guard, especially if mowing on an incline and the mower slipped backward. Having to wear shoes for an occasional lawn mowing is an acceptable tradeoff to prevent a lacerated top of the foot and maybe even some severed toes.

Yes i do. No danger with my lawnmower whatsoever. So it's a nice sensation and makes my soles green in the end, wich is fun to. :)

As i don’t have an own garden, I don‘t have to mow very often. I sometimes did when I helped out friends with a real big garden. I always did it barefoot, I think it’s not very dangerous as long as you push the mower as it is made for, the push handle is long enough to keep your feet in distance to the cutting unit. And I think, beside some heavy duty safety boots, any footwear would be ripped to shreds anyway. Moreover, I enjoy gardening in the nude, and it would be a sad feeling to put on solid boots I guess.

But everyone should do as she/he fells the best and safest I think!

I've got and acre and a half to mow. I do it wearing sandals on my John Deer tractor.

I mow barefoot all the time. The green grass stain isn't a big deal, and washes off easily. As for the safety issue, I have already cut my heel with a lawn mower, as a kid, and I was wearing shoes, the blade got me twice, and my shoes 5 times, I feel safer barefoot then wearing shoes. If you cut your foot while wearing shoes, it would be just more stuff to have to clean out of your wound. Keep it simple, go bare!
