mugwump, your poll does not tell the whole story. many parents are worried that their kids will get hurt so they dont let them play contact sports. (i know people get hurt in soccer save that for another thread, i am talking about reasons why parents dont let their kids play certain sports) i am willing to bet that if you took this poll from ages 15-18 it would be vastly different. in every high school i know of football dominates the fall, basketball dominates the winter and baseball dominates the spring. of course certain regions will make this change like in the north hockey will have higher numbers in the south-west baseball dominates and you might get high soccer numbers there do to the high immigrant rate there. and in the mid-west and southern areas football dominates. in america soccer is a kids game and a girls game when it comes time for scholorships almost all americans go to football, basketball or baseball
soccer is incredibly fun to play. watching it is pretty torturous though. better than basketball though, and so much easier to avoid. the NBA playoffs last 3 years each season, and for some reason 99% of the population feels obligated to watch every single game of it.
Been watching the champions league and some of the english premier league. And of course the world cup is always fun. Only thing is I don't have cable, so I have to catch them at this football pub or at a friends, so I don't see all of them.
I like to watch it. Don't care enough to keep up with it tho. I think it's a rather exciting sport to watch.
