It's cool to actually read these perspectives and it seems pretty poignant in the wake of the Mad Men series finale where the Coca Cola commercial sort of mirrors the perceived spiritual aspects of hippy culture. When I first started listening to Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, I was confused by the anti-hippy sentiment. But talking to my dad and hearing stories about people who adopted the popular image but not the peaceful philosophies, it makes more sense.
