my friends are like 50/50 on this. i personally like it, and one reason is because i do it alot. my favorite bar right now has been under new management for about a year and they have adopted a new policy to let people smoke weed in the outdoor section (its even supervised by bouncers). so its a really popular spot right now where everyone goes to socialize and smoke.

i think people dont like to smoke in public because one of the effects of weed is that "philosopher" effect, where you have these really deep and insightful thoughts, and you have trouble relating to the current social situation. and also because your really slow and you know your slow so you over analyze yourself and your fear of not wanting to sound stupid puts you into a totally introverted head space. but people in public tend to hover around very simple conversational topics anyway and they get boring fast so when you have a high ass conversation with a stranger about aliens from the future being robots, they tend to remember you better.

remember back in high school when all you had to do to bond with someone is smoke a blunt with them and you were officially friends? i still believe weed has that effect when were older, we just forget sometimes.

i think theres also another aspect that your not considering.

as an avid pothead my favorite thing to do is sharing the wonders of mary jane with the world. when i first meet someone, my first question is usually "do you smoke?" so we potheads get off on smoking people out. its just that sharing weed (to the point of shoving it in your face!) is just our culture, so tapping out midway through the blunt wont offend anyone. in fact, its like saying "your satisfied" at a dinner table or something. we potheads, we're just happy we got you to your limit and were also satisfied that your high as fuck.

and your lucky entertaining a pot head is easy as fuck. all you need is a couch, a tv, and something to munch on. i see many happy days ahead for you!

ps, let us know when you tame that puerto rican strange.

I prefer to smoke alone because I am prone to paranoia. That said, this is quite contradictory.I think I'm paranoia smoking along because I start talking to spiders on the wall like they're space aliens.I think I have this ass-backwards.I think I Actually like smoking with others in a party-like situation because everything kind of levels out and you all kind of forget you're stoned and everything just moves up to another level and naturalizes. My general modus operandi though is to try and avoid weed as it is not always helpful for schizotypal conditions and I have experienced a lot of cannabis psychosis in my twenty years of smoking weed. But I love waking up after a session,it can really sort your head out in a very refreshing way.My general intention is to try and avoid it,but it seems to follow me around.I like a few times occasionally, and flirting with the danger of what kind of headspace it's gonna put me into.

If I toke with others, it's with a finite amount of weed I have set aside. I don't show anyone my whole stash. And the bulk of my use is alone. Jane, my wife, doesn't toke. So when I come home after a few weeks in a desert stinking of diesel, my stash is exactly as I left it (buried in a tool box under my neighbor's shed). Untouched!

It's not that I don't like to share. But I don't see weed as being any more or less social than going to a bar. And I don't do that very often either. The bulk of the scotch I drink, I drink by myself. As for blunts, I've always felt that the very idea of making $20 worth of weed taste like a nasty 50 cent cigar was counterintuitive.

Having to deal with someone who "ONLY smokes blunts" is an indication of some very textbook Freudian issues. But that's just my opinion. I'll admit that back when I was a crackhead (circa 1993), I preferred a glass tube over a bent can. So clearly I'd prefer to avoid waste as well.

You are absolutely right on this!! She claims that both her parents were crackheads, and thus is her reason from never smoking from a pipe.

    Its all in one mind.

Weed can be the worst thing when talking with people.

You know what you want to say... but nothing comes out right and it sounds like spaghetti salad....

Though it comes down to experience and the mind set.

Id rather smoke weed and talk than do other things... Weed is a calm conversation...

Anything else ima eat your heart off the ground.

    Joking... not really.

i'm basically exactly like what rat described in the OP. back in my pothead days, i was high all the time so i always socialized while high. but i still preferred smoking alone, and i was less social in general than i have been since then. when i cut back my smoking dramatically, i really didn't want to smoke with people at all. now that i don't smoke at all, if i were to do so i would really really especially want to be alone for it.

it's not that i officially quit. i just moved and have no idea where to get it here. and with my job i'm a semi-public figure in a small town, so i have to be real careful who i talk to about it, which means i'm not holding out much hope for finding a hookup anytime soon.

If I had a Puerto Rican chick to hang out with, that smoked the bud all the time, Id probably just tell her to kick back and smoke while I eat her pussy..

Why bother socializing anyway? I know that I can't, for one

Don't do mental disease, kids. Drugs are fine. Mental disease will kill you

Sometimes I think, in terms of "having a problem" is when you disassociate or retreat from friends to enjoy your drug habit.

Then sometimes I think, oh to hell with the world, I'm my best friend anyway. :d

one of the most commonly cited signs of alcoholism is drinking alone. which really annoys me, since they're basically saying that introverts can't enjoy alcohol without having an addiction to it.

That annoys me too. That means I have a drinking problem. -raises hand- So many people enjoy a beer after work at home... I don't feel it's necessary to label these people with drinking problems, nor I.. not hurtin' no one.

She's 33, has four kids, and I am not into her like that. I am sure ten years ago it would have been different. Still, she's cool as hell and I am glad to have her as a friend. She's just way more of a badass than I could ever be.

I couldn't agree more. I must say I would rather smoke alone than drink alone, though I like drinking alone as well. Unlike pot, alcohol helps loosen me up in social situations, thus making me many times more interesting than I would normally be to those in my proximity.

Yeah it can be annoying/awkward sometimes when a friend, especially a coworker, keeps pushing themselves onto you. Don't get me wrong, some people are cool and for the most part the occasional hang/toke out with someone is nice, even with a coworker. But when they get used to this routine of hanging out once/twice a week with you, what can you do to break the routine but be an asshole? Social smoking is nice sometimes, but not all the time and certainly not most of the time as people tend to go off on tangents. The best way to prevent this from happening (clingy smoke buddy) is to not let it happen in the first place
